Carnauba wax is all I need?

Interesting thought Scott, never really used it before. What kind of durability have you gotten out of the poorboys in comparison to s100, nxt, and #20?? Would it be a good one topper, instead of doing nxt/#20 and s100, doing only poorboys EX-P or EX w/carnauba???

percynjpn, you are in Japan? I just moved there but what are you using "high quality carnubas sold here in Japan"? I'm ready to try out many products sold here. I brought S100 from the States but can you get it in Japan??? and are you using any polisher? Since I can't get Porter Cable, which one is good? do you know?

glad to see some members at oversea

Hey MildSeven, I'm in Ibaraki Pref., how about you?

Over the past few years, the only Japanese carnuba I've been using is SurLuster, particularly "Manhattan Gold", but it costs 3400 yen for only 100grams! I used to use Ion Coat (not the polymer) and Soft 99 Fusso Coat.

Though the Surluster is a Japanese product, the actual wax is imported from the U.S., but canned in Japan. A new high-end line of Soft 99 carnubas are out, the "Authentic" line; the most expensive one is 4200 yen for 200grams. I haven't tried any of them.

You cannot at present buy S100 in Japan; polishers are not popular here - the Makita orbitals they sell in the U.S. cannot even be bought here. Go figure :nixweiss . You can find plenty of very cheap no- names on Yahoo! Japan auction, though.

They also usually sell some at Yellow Hat and some Autobacs.

Ganbatte, ne!

Scott your opinion about:

Appearance/clarity/ Wetness in comparison to WG?

Kind of like the difference between #16 and #26. WG has a slightly softer, super deep look and EX-P has a super clear wet look. You can't go wrong with either, but I'd say that EX-P has a more 'unique' look. WG has the rich look of a good carnauba.

Edwin-tell me about it! There are just so many really good new products out there and a lot of experimenting to see what combos look best on each particular color. :up

I sure like the testing though!

I use a sealant for maximum protection. I use a carnuba for that icing on the cake! My favorite combo is Wolfgang topped with Pinnacle Souveran. Wow!

What about topping Poorboy's w/ carnuba? Just recently bought a bottle, & I'm currently working on detailing my black Yamaha Venture. I'm in the polishing stage now, but plan on using PB w/carnuba as a final. Should I top it, & with what?

I have topped EX with P21S, Souveran and Natty Wax. Really nice combos. One day I will try EX with Meg #16. From Scott's pictures appears to be a winner.

Scott,

I am trying to pace myself but soooo many really nice products coming out all at once and curiosity is killing me. ;). Next week PB EX-P.

Steve, what the quickest ordering site for me? Maryland distributor?

TIA

Aurora I feel you man. I really have started to question why I am using a sealant. Currently I have VM and one coat of EX-P. I plan to hit some of the edges and stuff I may have not got so well the first time around with EX-P then its S100 every 6-8 weeks from here on out in the summer. I guess you could say I am using the sealant for its ability to bond to VM and its longevity to lock in the fillers, and topping with carnauba cause I love the look.

Excuse me for being contrary but as time goes on and my prep sequence improves, I am finding very little final appearance differences between sealants and carnuabas. There is a tactile difference, a sealant ultra slick and carnuaba more feels silky. With a well-prepped clearcoat and a quality carnuaba the reflectivity is there just like a sealant. The biggest difference used to be for me the depth of basecoat hue between sealants and carnuabas. That difference has been diminished by a better prep.

I too like Bob, love the experience of applying a carnauba but presently do not see that big a difference in appearance to abandon either.

Life was so less complicated when my protectant decision was only between Meg GC, Mother's and Meg #26. Not a knock on these products, but my vehicles presently look so much better now. Not because I am using a boutique sealant or carnuaba, but because of pre-application paint prep.

Basically what I am saying is that I use whichever of the 10+ or so products available dependent on my mood for application. Sometimes you feel like a nut (sealant), sometimes your don't (carnauba) JMHO :wavey

:up :up

As my prep has gotten better too, I honestly saw no discernable difference between Zaino, Platinum, or hardly even from Souveran. It really is all in the prep.

Same goes for me, as my prep has gotten better my ability to see whats on the surface has gone down. I mean, to be honest if I top something or not, I would be the only one who could tell. My GF thinks I am nuts, she says everything I put on looks the same.

Agreed. You aren't going to get a huge difference, but to me, EX-P has a very unique super clear wet look. I noticed it the first time I used it. That picture does not do justice to how that SL500 looked in real life.

If that picture doesn't do EX-P justice that stuff must be off the wall. That's a fantastic picture that got me interested enough to try the EX-P.

I ordered directly from Steve yesterday and he shipped me a bottle the same today :xyxthumbs:xyxthumbs:xyxthumbs

Great friendly customer services as usually.

Guess what detailing product I will be playing with Monday evening!!! :bounce

PS. Scott and Steve, when the package arrives and my wife see it, I am going to blame this purchase on your picture and Steve's service. ;)

Tried a few liquid waxes, but I'm hooked on carnauba. The pure shine. Liquid wax produce a sterile shine. No knocking liquid waxes, they are very good waxes. I'm leaving the bottle & going back to the jar or can. Originals or hard to duplicate that is why they're called originals.

I have to agree with Blk....Personaly, i carry 1 carnauba product, S100, and rarely use it with the exception of when i use BF, and that not for any additional visual benefit, but purely as a dust deterent. I really see no difference in using a carnauba, and todays BF, WG, Platinum, AIO, Medallion, ColorX......Todays sealants are all amazing......
