Car Care Myths

I think one myth that I've proven wrong is that all touchless car washes are taboo. Not so if you have a good sealant or better yet, a coating properly applied.

I use one in the winter that cleans the undercarriage and doesn't apply wax. It does a presoak, then power rinses, then applies a spotless wash just before the air dryer completes the process.

I then hit the car with Poorboys wash and wipe because it leaves no protection and thus doesn't interfere with my CarPro CQUK coating. The car looks like I spend hours on it and its spotless.

I don't do rinseless washes in the winter anymore and frankly come spring I have no accidentally induced swirls anymore to get rid of. Yes it costs more but it takes only 10 minutes of my time and I don't get cold or wet.

When your car has road salt all over it including underneath it, a rinseless wash is ridiculous unless you pre wash with pressure which is more work and an extra step. It isn't a rinseless wash at that point which Is supposed to save time and water. If I'm not saving either time or water it's not worth my time.

And yes the cold is a factor. If you have a good coating on the car it will wash off practically squeaky clean. The LSP is critical in my scenario otherwise the touchless wash will wipe it out given the strong soaps they use.

I prefer using strong soaps in winter because the car gets filthy and using something gentle is a waste of time.
