Black H2 limo detailing help?

Hi everybody,

I'm an amateur detailer and after seeing my car I was asked to detail black Hummer H2 limo. I really need any help, any pointers, any advice would be great.

What I have - Flex 3401, PC 7424, cutting, polishing and finishing pads.
I can not decide what would be the correct approach for this job.

One way would be clay the whole thing, compound/remove all swirl marks with Meguiars 105, following with 205, then wash it, seal it with poorboy's EX sealant with carnauba and finish it with Pinnacle Liquid Souveran Wax.

Another way would be - Optimum Compound II (less dust?)or Klasse AIO with aggressive pad, Poorboys Black Hole Glaze, Poorboy's EX-P sealant or 4 star Sealant and Pinnacle Liquid Souveran Wax.

Disadvantage with first approach - very time consuming, dust from 105, bigger risk to screw up, will probably take about 4 days or longer.
Advantage - swirls are removed, not hidden.

Second approach will take less time, but not as "clean", still I think 2-3 days, just because that thing is really huge vehicle.

I'm trying to find correct (somewhat fast and efficient) way to detail it.
My biggest concern is dusting with M105 and since there are freaking fields of black paint - uniformity, I need to make everything look even, not to over/under work some spots
Please help me, any advice would greatly appreciated!

I've had great results from PB SSR line on black. Its hard to say for sure which way to go without seeing the paint but if its not in bad shape I don't know that I would go with compound. Menzerna Super Intensive Polish or PB SSR 2.5 followed with Menzerna Nano or PB SSR 1 will both produce a flawless finish on black.

You should always use the least aggressive polish that will do the job.

Do a test spot with a mild polish if that don't get the results that you want step it up to something more aggressive.

Generically speaking, your approach should be dictated by the 1) the customer's expectations, 2) paint condition 3) what the job pays. There are probably other factors but that would be a good three to start.

Specifically, I'm not really certain that you are going to get the best from KAIO with an aggressive pad.

Scattershooting, for black paint and working with the products you've mentioned (and assuming you already have them on hand), I would stick with PB's EX over EX-P. LS would also be another outstanding choice of LSPs for the black paint. I have not yet tried PB's Black Hole product but I have read glowing reports. If you have the time and the compensation, I would be inclined to work that step into the process.

Black hole is AMAZING. As far as an H2 for an exterior detail, I did one about a year ago and charged in the area of 550 for light, light paint correction and a paint sealant. If I were in your shoes, I would try the Poorboys world SSR line, followed by Poorboys world Black hole then any sealant you'd like. I just buffed a black limo with SSR2.5 followed by SSR1 and LOVED the results. Good Luck!

I'm sure it was just an H2..... I think a limo would be over $1000

And i never saw a limo that wasn't swirled from a private company

I agree with H.P. here. Also I would make sure I had a week worth of time to deal with it. If the client books appointments with it and you're not finished that would not be good so I would ad a few days to what you think it will take to get done just to be on the safe side.

It would be hard to say whether it would have hard or soft paint so be sure to do a test section first to be sure that you are getting the desired results before moving on to the next panel.

The Poorboy's and Optimum products will definitely be the most user friendly of the products that you mention so hopefully they will do.

Thank you very much for all info!
I will start on Wednesday and I'll post the results later
P.S. that's the one I'll work with

That's one heck of a door panel - lol. Am I done yet nope not yet you have another 15 ft. before you reach the door handle.

h2 limo....keep in mind you dont have to touch the roof on them....they are all vinyl....you have the sides, hood and rear hatch....550 for a paint correction was fair for the limo company and me.....

I would have passed that is one maybe two days work if your doing it for a living with insurance and everything how do you make ends meet?

Even if it took 2 days, that's $225 per day. Not a bad wage imo. Even after expenses your taking home a lot more than what most 9-5 jobs would pay. In my area, if I can clear $150 a day I'm thrilled.

it took 4 hours. The bulk of my work was finishing up buffing where the body shop had just painted. The unit had less than 8k miles on it.

thats better than 125 an hour. how much do YOU make an hour?

Well I only make 30 an hour but I'm sure if you ask the countless lives I've saved or the people who are still able to hold on to their memories because of my quick actions I should be getting paid much much more.
