great work - truly fantastic. Riddle me this batman - how the he!! dealer let a car like this (or any car for that matter) leave a lot in this condition. The dealer should be truly ashamed.

Glaze and lots of it!

Auto Concierge- Thanks Bob! The GT3 was in for a new car prep and a clear-bra, which I will posting up soon. As for the BMW, what a nightmare!! I have worked on lots of BMW's, but this one definitely takes the cake for the most difficult. It went from a one or two day detail and turned into a week long detail. Not fun!!

fishbonezken- Thank you so much! For the most part, all of our work is full paint corrections and most of the cars are black to boot. We don't get much of a break at Unique Car Care!!

jimmie jam- Thanks buddy! I'm just glad we were able to get it looking like new again for the customer.

dsms- Thanks Dave! The sun shots definitely don't lie, that's for sure!

OakesDetail- Thank you! It was no easy task, but somehow we pulled it off! Thanks for the referral too!

rydawg- Ryan, what can I say... Thank you so much for all of the help with this car and all of the cars we've pumped out this summer! Now I really need to get into gear for the fall, which I know is going to be insanely busy. You and I both need to get caught up on write-ups too!

Got_Leather- Thanks DJ! It was great talking with you the other day. This is the car I was complaining about...

evolutionwc3- Thank you! I always try to get full sun shots if possible. I got lucky on this one!

snowskate- Thank you Jack! I really hope the dealer makes good on this, since the owner was very happy with their service up until this happened.

Power Finish is a very versatile product and can be used for heavy cutting as well as finishing, dependingon paint hardness. We used Power Finish with the black wool pads in order to level the paint and remove all of the RIDS. PF has excellent has excellent lubrication and worked great on this particular paint, where a traditional compound would have really done a number on it, since it was so soft. The 105 knocked out the haziness from the wool pad, but left some slight jiggle marks in the finish. The Power Finish on a foam pad acted like a medium / finish polish, which left the finish ready for the final polishing step.

As for the degreaser, we used 'Kleens', which is made by Trans-Mate.

Sorry I missed you. You'll have to stop by next time you are in the area.

michakaveli- Thanks!

Shaun Carollo- Thank you! Yes, the before pictures are a little disturbing to say the least!

Hemin8r- Thank you very much! The owner is talking with the dealer as we speak to see if they will cover the cost of the detail. We'll see what happens...

98Vette- Thanks! I don't envy you for having a JB BMW. I definitely couldn't deal with having to keep it looking nice all the time, since it marrs up so easy. Maybe the next car should be silver!

bufferbarry- Barry, thanks for the very kind words! You are absolutely right. It is easy to look at before & after pictures, but not too many people understand exactly how much work goes into a job like this, especially when you are trying to fix someone elses screw-up!

Apollo_Auto- Haha... Thanks Jesse! I'm glad you enjoyed the write up and I think it's safe to say that you might be a little more excited than the customer was! LOL! I might have been a little freaked out if the owner came to pick up the car with a stiffy...

corrswitch- Thank you very much!

tdekany- Thanks Thomas! It was supposed to be a secret!

DaGonz- Thanks!

PresdntialDtail- Yup, there was no easy way out of this one! Thank god I had Ryan to help!

RaskyR1- Thanks Rasky! I hope he gets his $$ back too!

MotorCity- Thanks for taking ther time to read it!

David Fermani- Thanks David! I wish you were here to have helped us! So when are gonna come visit us in Boston?

drew.haynes- Thanks Drew! That really means a lot! i think Ryan and I do some of the best work around, but are still on the cheap side. The business is growing more & more every year, so I guess we must be doing something right!

Thats Fresh- Thanks! I agree!

Petrucci_M3- Thank you! That picture says it all!

jswift2000- Amazing indeed! Thanks!

Jokeman Haha... You aren't kidding!

gmblack3a- Thanks Bryan! How's everything??

Had to read it all over again and look at the pics all over again. It's an epic thread that proves what sets you gentlemen apart from the pack. WOW

I've already mentioned this thread in particular to two clients since I read it. It's such a great example of how much damage can be present on a new car, the pitfalls of dealing with an underhanded dealership, and the awesome correction a good detailer can achieve. I love it. Nice work guys.

I am the owner of the once tragically flawed, now absolutely perfect black 128i -- why it’s almost like new! Actually, it’s better than new, as anyone can see from Rick’s photos. You should see it in person. I’ve mostly just been taking it out, looking at it, taking pictures, and putting it back in the garage. It’s almost too good to drive. It’s picked up a little dust, and I plan to wash it (as per Rick’s instructions) on Saturday. The relief is enormous, given how deflating it was to see the damage show up within days of taking delivery, and all efforts seemed to only turn up more imperfections! (Btw, Rick mentioned that he saw it with less than 300 miles -- the problems showed up when it had less than 20!). Anyway, I’ll have more to say about it all later, but for now I’ll just say this. There is no perfectionist more fanatic than I -- in all things -- and I knew I’d met my match the first time I talked to Rick on the phone. The guy’s a maniac. They did an incredible job. Worth every...penny.

toyotaguy- Thanks!

Picus- Thanks Picus! It still amazes me to this day that dealers have not caught on that they need to train who is prepping their vehicles the correct way. I see this sort of thing all the time and it's really unfortunate for the person who just shelled out thousands of their hard earned money for the car they desired, which got hacked by their 'detailer'. Maybe someday they will learn, but I guess the good thing is that they keep me in business!

Hystoryan- I'm really glad you are pleased with the outcome and hope the dealer never gets their filthy hands on the car again! It was a pleasure dealing with you and I hope to see you again someday in the future when the car needs a light touch up. The car was a ton of work to get the end results we were shooting for, but it was well worth it in the end, since the car is brand new and deserves to look perfect. Thanks for being patient and understanding how much work it and not being in a rush to get it back. It must have killed you to have been without your brand new car for an entire week!

Good luck with the wash and feel free to give me a call with any questions you may have.

(eagerly awaiting the next RickRack/Rydawg writeup :) )

Haha.... Thanks!

Both Ryan and I are really behind on our write-ups and need to get our a$$es in gear. We have some pretty insane transformations that will shock you. This summer has just been crazy with work, in addition to some family health issues, which is why I haven't been on Autopia much lately.

Now I;ll just have to decide which write-up I'm going to work on next :hm

Amazing work guys! Those before and after shots are unbelieveable. I'm an owner of a jet black bmw myself, and although the dealer is to blame for the damage to this car, BMW is partially to blame as well. This is the worst paint I have ever seen or worked with. It is so soft and easily marred, yet correcting it is a complete PITA.

WOUT-STANDING !!! :woot:

Are you guys running 110 or 220 to that plug-in paint job because it is G L O W I N G like a set of stadium lights!!!

Rydawg- In reference to the random orbital... A long way from this in a short amount of time for you:

You guys are definitely a TEAM to be reckoned with. Great teamwork, fantastic job. :hifive:

I hope you are both healthy so we can see some more write-ups. I haven't looked around much lately but glad I saw this and the Audi write-up. :2thumbs:

Saw this over on E90Post - once again, fantastic detail! JB is a tricky color to get right, but you guys nailed it.

I agree with you about BMW being at fault for this. It is definitely one of the worst paints I have worked on, Infiniti black being the worst. I work on tons of BMW's and luckily all of them are metallic black and are much easier to deal with. I feel bad for you owning a Jet Black BMW, because it must be impossible to keep looking nice. You'd think it would be easier to correct because of the soft paint, but that is definitely not the case! You could always paint it! :)
