Best leather products please.....

Suprchargd: The Neatsfoot dressing works best when you use the Lexol Cleaner & the Lexol Conditioner prior. Use Lexol as a 3 step system for best results.

I haven't been on the forum for a while.

What is the best leather cleaners and protectorants that are out there now.

I have been using Woolite to clean with and several different conditioners/creams or liquids in a bottle in the past.

I have a Volvo C70 and a Buick Reatta (European and American leathers)

I just noticed a Raggto kit...is that a good or desirable product or should I stick with a cream (please suggest the best creams)?

Thanks,

Nic

If you are seeking the best, Leathermaster fills that category IMHO.

Lexol is and shall still be a leather conditioner for tack equipment, leather chairs, etc.

Years ago, they started marketing this product for auto use. Some of those that used it strickly for the above aforementioned rave of the use of Lexol in the auto field. Very good marketing on their behalf.

Lexol smells terrible, more like goat pee (and yes I know what it smells like) and can film the interior of a vehicle when it off-gases.Sure, it will soften leather, that's what it was designed for back in the days. They have refined it a bit more, but it's still pretty much the same.

There are far better products strictly used for auto interiors and that's where Lexol users should look at strongly.

I'm not knocking Lexol as a product for leather, but I am knocking it's use in the auto industry. Clever marketing and packaging as well. Just leave it in the barn or tack room where it belongs.

More and more leather conditioners now have fragrance that closely match auto interior leather smells. They also soften and treat just like Lexol, but without any oily after-effects. If that's what you are looking for i.e; leather smell/odor, go with Zaino Z-10, Griots, etc.

If you are looking to improve the feel of leather, get the original smell back without heavy leather fragrance then look at SONUS. It too smell terrible out of the bottle, but once on leather, it's a whole new world. Not only do you get the tanning smells back, but the leather now feels the way it should. Firm, non slippery, and it's natural tanning odor returns. I really didn't think this product would perform the way I wanted it to, but it has and more. Porsche leather has a very unique smell. SONUS will re-open that smell once applied.

For some time, I've used 1Z Lederpflege with good results. It's wax based and does a good job, but I wanted a more original feel and smell. Very creamy and soft.

On more aggressive side, you have Hide Care (Hide Food), Leatherique and a few no-name pro lines that can restore just about any leather. Problem is they contain solvents and lots of them to release leather pores and work their way in so the conditioner can soften the leather. Most are lanolin based, some wax based and some oil based. Best way after this use is to re-clean the skin or you'll end up with a nasty oily feeling leather.

Honestly, don't you want to open the car door and be greated by the original smell? That's what we all work for. Or, at least close to it. Z-10 was a dead-on ringer for Lexus leather.

You have to find the one that closely matches your original interior and stay with it. If your car is current, maybe a trip back to the dealer to focus on the smell/odor so you can match it. Bring a few sample conditioners with you (leave then in your car or they'll think you're nuts) and go back to each one after sampling the new car. Once you find the one that closely matches YOUR INTERIOR, stay with it.

These are my professional thoughts... yours may differ.:chuckle:

I'm in total agreement with your thoughts on Lexol. I started using it years ago to clean, re condition, & restore my Mom's tack & saddles for her horse business. Lexol performed extremely well in that regard. As for auto interior use, the only time I'd reach for the Lexol system is to bring back old, neglected leather seats. Other than that, leave it in the barn or tack room as you say.

Smart Man!!!:D Next time, use the Leatherique products to restore leather. Works much better in restoration. They can even color match a leather if you need to dye it again.

lanolin is produced by sqeezing freshly sheered wool-it's a natural wax. Some conditioners use collogen which is a by product of cows shin bones. Others use mink oil. FWIW

After reading the last few remarks about Lexol, I went out to the garage and smelled the stuff. I couldn't detect any real oder. You guys must be high on cheap wine! I'll stick with Lexol. Just goes to show ya'll how friggin different opinions get when some one asks - what's the best "fill in the blank"

Wow. I'm amazed at the variety of leather products that people prefer or consider the best.

I've no idea what the best is, as I've tried very few relative to the number on the market. With that said, I'm happy with Pinnacle's cleaner and conditioner.

do you have many different ones for different brand of cars or what?

There are several cleaners and conditioners in the Leathermaster line.

For general cleaning and protection the Strong Cleaner and Vital conditioner are what I use.

There is no purfume or scent in these products so don't expect a leather scent...besides it's not leather you're smelling anyways it's the adhesives and such gassing off.

They have a really nice product I used for the second time just recently which worked just great. It is a cleaner and conditioner in one and is designed for spot use. The first time I tried it, about a year ago, I really didn't care for it but this time I thoroughly enjoyed using it.

I think you mean the tanning process. :D That's what odor you smell. Unless you're Seinfeld and you smell Beyond B. O. in your car from the valet.:chuckle:

omg Duragloss leather cleaner and conditioner is a total sleeper when it comes to stuff like this!

1st you are able to pick it up at a local Car Quest.

2nd it doesnt cost an arm an a leg

3nd the cleaner does a fantastic job

4rd the conditioner works flawlessly

5th it actually smells like new leather, its right up there with zaino conditioner.
Thanks for the tip. I'm going to have to try that. I didn't know you could get that stuff locally.

And to stay on track, I've used Meguiars as well, and I've been able to use leather cleaning and conditioners sold at places that sell leather coats and stuf.

I hear Lexol as beeing good also, and Leatherique when you need to restore your leather seats

Zaino Z-9 and Z-10 have been a big favorite for me on Lexus leather and other leathers that have a strong "leathery" smell.

Now that I have a new 06 Porsche C2S, I find that Porsche leather has a very unique smell/odor. Somewhat cleaner smelling.

Therefore, Z-10 is overpowering for the Porsche.

I tried SONUS leather cleaner and the conditioner. Oddly enough, the cleaner is a thicker gel and the conditioner is a thin milky looking liquid. WHat I found out was that SONUS conditioner re-feeds the natural oils and tanning odors in the leather rather than masking it with a heavy fragrance of leather. The SONUS has an odd odor from the bottle. But, in doing so, releases the original smell of your leather.

I was very please to open the door of my Porsche and smell the leather as it did when I took delivery.

You can get 100's of leather products that have a leather fragrance, but this is the ONLY ONE that can release the original smells of your leather.

Give it a try. If you don't care for it and want a strong new car leather smell, then use the Zaino Z-10.

Dang! so many choices. Just by reading this whole thread, it seems like Sonus is a great product. I've never used any of their products before. I may order some of this as well on my next online order! :2thumbs:
