Best for soft honda paint

fwiw my moms civic with nighthawk black pearl responded great to cg final polish and and an orange pad. no haze and only the deep stuff remained.
 
David, thanks for weighing in. I have to admit I've got 0 experience with paint this soft and it leaves me a bit apprehensive. Am I better off trying the Menzerna polishes via a foam pad on the Makita?

Yes. As long as your work them properly. (I.E. break them down slowly and completely and refine the polish in it's very last clear state with a finishing foam pad)

I've got to check what I still have in the way of larger diameter foam pads. I think I threw most of my old Meg's pads away as they were falling apart.

I haven't done a JB BMW yet, but the last CR-V was a nightmare as PO85RE5 marred it on a 100 ppi finessing pad. I had to use 600-800 rpms and levitate the head of the rotary. I don't believe BMWs can be softer than that.



TTWAGN, Poli-Seal works excellent on soft Honda paint.
 
Chris, with both. In fact the finish marred with a MF. It was a VERY weird paint. I tried countless combos. First 106FF. It acted up strangely, as it deposited an oily, stubborn residue and it was impossible to wipe off (4 pea sizes drops on a 7 inch pad). M80 wasn't enough alone to correct it, so I needed something stronger. After a couple of tries I did swear a lot (sounds familiar?). Then I thought heck, I'll try some big guns, so out came the 105, 85, the Pasta Intensive, and Scholl S17. The 105 and the 1ZPI worked the best. The 105 produced a wonderful finish but obviously left marring. The 1Z was the easiest to work with; it had the best wipeoff characteristics. It marred the finish too. That was expected so no biggie and both corrected the swirls. But after M80 it looked HORRIBLE, far worse than after 105. Then I tried the following: OC - heavy marring, OP - marring, 1ZHGP - marring, Scholl S40 - marring, PO85RE5 - marring, Carlack 68 - marring. I tried most of them with my Bosch DA with the same results. The Menz produced the finest holograms, so decided to stick with it, and I kept saying, no, I won't try another... And the funny part was to spend the next 3-4 hours finessing the finish, constantly checking if I was really making physical contact with the paint, as I had to lift the head of the rotary. It sucked big time.

Then I used #7 and topped with NXT Paste. This combo looks ridiculously good on NHB. I still can't believe the softness of this paint. If they were painted it with pure tar, it would have been harder. I always use new pads, or wash them after 2 panels no matter how they clog up.
 
That sounds out of the ordinary or even defective but scary to say the least. From what I'm experiencing, it also seems like it going the other way from the other Honda finishes. I'm thinking that the hardness or lack thereof has to do with which assembly plant these cars are coming out of.
 
I did a black 5-door Euro-Civic as well, but it was just *very* soft - in a traditional NHB fashion.



I was able to mar it with a MF, but it cleaned up beautifully with Poli-Seal. The CR-V was a different story. I'd love to upload pics into the gallery, but the new Autopia software doesn't let me to do it.
 
That doesn't surprise me, Bence. The NBP Accord that I did was so soft, I actually marred the paint using a VERY soft MF towel when wiping off the excess polish once I removed the tape from the edges/seams.



It was INSANELY soft.
 
This additional correction did not go so well. I did try the Menzerna Final Polish, Zaino SMR and 3M's SMR for dk colors. The 3M stuff was by far the best leaving the paint clear and wet-looking. It actually relieved some areas of cloudiness on the hood - - I hope it lasts.



Even with a delicate effort and clean foam pads (for each product) mounted on the Makita, I still had signficant new swirling, somewhat lighter than before. Maybe these products aren't ideal with the rotary??



I've ordered the Fleetwax and the Optimum Poli-Seal. I'm anxious to try the Poli-Seal...that sounds like an interesting product. I'm concerned that the heavy action required to remove the Fleetwax is going to leave all sorts of holograms on this overly-soft finish.



I LSP-ed the hood with Surf City's carnauba and the trunk lid with 1Z Glanz Wax. The metal flake is absolutely leaping off the car it's got so much life and dimension with the Glanz Wax. That's a home run on this color!

Bence, thanks for the recommendation on Poli-Seal. What a great product! It may be the easiest product of its type I've ever worked with. There is almost 0 residue to remove and the finish is as slick as can be. Gloss is excellent. I hope it lasts.



I look forward to trying this on other cars. I like to have a good AIO in my back pocket for light "clean up" work which the cars seem to need so often.



I've only done a few panels and I can't tell (yet) if I've relieved the buffer trail marks. I need to get it in the right light to see if the marks are gone.

Actually not true. The EP3 Civic SI (generation before this lastest one), was built in the UK also. I have one sitting in the garage right now. They also were produced in Japan, but only for Japan, as they were the Civic Type R there.



There's still a few models that are produced in the UK that make it over here. I'll have to ask my dad again, but I'm pretty sure some of the Acura line, is produced there, and sent here.
