Best for soft honda paint

Sean, did you ever hit your Teg with a cutting pad and polish or was it just always a polishing pad and PO85RD?

Never really a need, but if so, it was a polishing pad and some IP/OP.

I didnt say that OP would not work I had just herd that it takes 2X as long in some cases to work the polish in and break it down because it was geared more for a rotary than a DA.

That being said, in your experience how long does it take you to work in OP? What would you suggest for a pad polish combo with Optimum for soft paint?

forgive me for ressurecting an old thread, but you guys recommening just FPII, this is kind of confusing to me. In all the other threads from what I've read, FPII is basically a finishing polish with very little abrasiveness that wont touch swirls/scratches, even on soft paint. But it seems as though you're recommending it here for the swirls/scratches he said he had on his Honda. So... on soft honda paint, will FPII do any kind of correction, or would you need to use like IP first on like an orange pad, and then use the FPII on the white?

Having a honda you can do all your paint correction with a UDM. Pretty lucky!

A finishing pad and PO85RD would be a good choice. Using a Grey finishing pad

Follow up with a glaze like product with a blue softer finishing pad. Menzerna finishing glaze is good so is DWG (Danese Wet Glaze)

On soft paint you have to use finishing pads with your fine polishes instead of polishing pads.

Glazes make the biggest difference on soft paint.

I would stay away from a product like polyseal on soft paint.

Another great combo is 1Z Paint Polish with a light cutting pad, followed by 1Z Metallic Polish Wax with a finishing pad. Works fantastic on soft Honda paint, and is far more economical than Menz products. The 1Z polishes have a very long work time - so easy to use!

Guys, I started this thread yesterday http://www.autopia.org/forum/car-detailing/110410-what-should-penalty.html and didn't get much in the way of specific product info.

Following the comments in this thread, it sounds like my use of the rotary on the Honda was a BIG mistake. Oh, well. I had no idea paint could be so soft after working for years on BMW/MBz/VW/Audi where I could crank away all day with an aggressive technique.

Problem is, I think I've sold all my milder polishes over the past year or two thinking I'd never use them again. Looks like I may need to re-order some of the fine 1Z product line unless somebody has an alternate rec. I've really got to see what's remaining on the shelves in the basement.

Specific concern: Suggestions for an LSP that will last the winter and be a good match for this paint job?

Thx.

I polished an 04 Accord with NBP paint about two months ago for a close friend. I topped it with FK 1000P, and he's STILL loving it.

Nighthawk Black Pearl. In my opinion, it's the best looking color that Honda/Acura makes. It has a TON of blue flake in it, and when polished, it looks incredible.

You're welcome, Tom.

Thanks for the reply, Mr Hulk. What is NBP?

Ahhh, should have known that! I'm still trying to catch up with the Honda-specific jargon.

Is that a difficult color to deal with?

Thx :)

Well, to quote the great p_taylor on here: "Black isn't a color. It's a part time job."

It's extremely difficult to deal with. Not only is it black, but it's Honda Black. I've only been detailing about 5-6 months, but I've done close to 30 cars in that timespan....it's the softest paint I've worked with yet. When it's perfect though, no other color touches it.

Just my dos pesos.

A jet black 3 Series will make Honda paint seem rock hard. FPII for the win if you don't want to spend the extra dough on the 85RD.

That's what I've heard, Spoiled. I've yet to work on a Jet Black BMW, but I've heard the horror stories.

The first one I did involved a LOT of swearing!:( I kept looking for the most gentle way to get it done and nothing worked. Everything kept leaving those wonderful little hooks in the paint. My last resort was the rotary and 85RD with Meguiar's 9006 which got it done.

I will most certainly keep that in mind. Thanks for the insight, Spoiled.

I will add that since I've been really into FPII these days that my next attempt on one of those cars will be making FPII work for finishing.

I'm somewhat glad I've learned this lesson w/o any serious damage :think2 I had no idea such soft paint would be applied to cars nowadays. It seems the trend has been in the opposite direction.

I think I'll try a couple of panels this weekend with the PC and some of the products I have on hand. I did order the Fleetwax last night. I may order a new polish if the various SMRs I have don't get the job done.

Thanks, guys!

Well, some of the cars are getting much harder paint than in the past. We just got an '08 Odyssey in Baltic Blue Pearl(dark blue) and it's nothing like any Honda that I've had and I've had a few.:D I've seen this newfound hardness in TL's and Odyssey's so far.

no, premium white pearl is the best honda color, i think i will be picking up some menz SIP and PO85RD for finishing for my premium white pearl rsx :woot2:

When you guys are using the various Menzerna polishes on this soft paint, are you applying with PC + foam pad?

Thanks.
