best car movies??

Volvo has already made a commercial involving the "vampire". I saw the commercial and was like "What?????" Then my wife tells me, "Oh yeah, he drives a Volvo. It's his signature car!" I guess Volvo is aware of the "phantom demographic" of women in their late 20's and early 30's who are also way too fascinated with the movie characters.:out:

This movie came out in 1981. I was in High School and cable t.v. had just become available. I must have watched this movie 50 times or more that month :drool5:

Does anyone remember the slide box cablevision first used in the early days

"Cars, man, Cars. You know what's worse than a car that won't run?
That's PUSHING a car that won't run!"
Dennis Hopper as Cal.

Most other car companies would be all over that connection, but I don't know that I've seen one Volvo commercial that mentions that movie. Volvo's marketing strategies are kind of :out: if you ask me. I mean hell, they have the XC60 out now that's won every major award in its category and you don't see a single commercial advertising it. Kind of strange.

They don't mention the movie, but IIRC, they flash a few shots of the "dude" and people in the know (like my wife) are supposed to know what's going on. It was pretty subtle. It sort of makes sense for Volvo. I remember a while back reading somewhere that Volvo has decided to make a concerted effort to market to women.

Well, they did do away with the REAL R's!!

Although, they designed the C30 coupe for college aged girls and you know the demographic that buys the most? Baby boomer men!!

Who knows :out:

Oh and my REAL favorite car movie is Smokey and the Bandit, by far!! I love that movie. I like Gone in 60 Seconds too, very cool movie.

What about Bad Boys? Will Smith's Porsche is pretty cool and the Cobra that the bad guy is driving is pretty sweet as well and must be pretty safe considering he hits a concrete wall going over 200 mph and walks away, albeit bloody.

Yeah the Cobra was cool.

Wow, I just remembered a movie that I loved. RONIN. I love spy movies. Throw in a couple of cool car chase scenes involving an S8, M5 and other fast looking European vehicles and also a few gratuitous shots of still hot Katarina Witt and I'm good!

Let's see.... don't know if these are the best, but worth mentioning

Days of Thunder
Bad Boys (race at the end between Porsche 911 turbo and a '67 Cobra)
Death Race
Dukes of Hazzard - of course the series was better kinda like the original Knight Rider

The best car movie AMERICAN GRAFFITI great movie best cast ever:clap::clap:

The remake of The Italian Job, the final scene of actually stealing the gold. Makes me want a MINI Cooper so badly every time I see this movie.

I also agree with the selection of Ronin. I don't care much for the movie as a whole, but the car chase scenes were fantastic.

I liked the Italian Job too. The Mini Coopers were definitely really cool as was the healthy dose of Charlize Theron.
