best brake dust cleaner/repellent

Michelin ceased production of their product :( I have yet to find anything to replace it. I don't really bother with the "wheel wax" routine cuz my wheel cleaners strip it off way to quick :(

Plan B: Lo dusting brake pads :)

Welcome aboard, CLK!

I use KAIO + PB WS on my wheels and it seems to work pretty well.

I don't use rim cleaners on my wheels very often. Usually just my normal car wash soap.

Shucks, I hadn't heard that. I wanted to try it one day to see if it lived up to the claim. Did it die due to poor sales, or some other reason? (ie. some ingredient found to be hazardous?)

I have to assume poor sales. I contacted the company that was producing it to get the low-down. They wouldn't reply to my inquiries.

The name of the company is Petroferm and they need to do some work on their customer relations :nana:

what is the best solution for fighting brake dust?

im sick of cleaning my wheels 3 times a week

thanks
:welcome to Autopia!

Unfortunately if you're cleaning wheels three times a week then there is no magic bullet that I know of except low dust brake pads. In lieu of that, once you get them clean use a slick sealant to seal them and they'll at least be a little easier to clean. I use Poorboy's Wheel Sealant or one of the WOWA sealants and then after a wash I use some FK425 to add a little slickness.

The one item that has made my wheel cleaning jobs a lot easier is the World's Greatest Boar's Hair Wheel Brush:

For those that gasp at the thought of paying $25 for a wheel brush I was so impressed I bought a second one when they had a sale so I'd have a spare in case they ever quit making them.

For lug nuts I bought the nifty Clean Wheel Nut and Cavity Cleaner from our friend Chris in Canada at eShine:

eShine Canada: Clean Wheel Nut and Cavity Cleaner

I've only had a chance to use it a couple of times but so far I really like it and as a bonus this product is made in Canada! Order two with a couple of tins of Megs #16 to help offset the shipping.

How long ago did you see it?

We have a Big Lots...never been in the store. It would be worth a try, I suppose. I'd love to buy a bunch of this stuff if it were available.

On a Mercedes/BMW you are just fighting an uphill battle. You have two choices, clean them 3 times a week, or get low dust ceramic pads (may I suggest Akebono EURO ultra-premium pads).

Putting a sealant on the wheel helps reduce the dust by about 5-10%, you'll be cleaning the wheels twice a week instead of thrice :)

BMW brake dust is the worst. I clean my 335i wheels twice a week. Wheel Wax is ok

Has any put Opti-Seal on them?

LOL, OK. Thanks. I'm heading out in the general direction of the store on Friday...I'll take a few mins and check in to see what they've got, if anything.

I have, but like Aqua Wax better. I mix Fast Clean and Shine (70%) Aqua Wax (30%) in a spray bottle and works great. Cleans and seals in one step.

I put Colli 476S on the wheels of my X3 about a week ago. I've actually driven more than normal in that time, but the dust seems noticeably less. We did have some hard rain for two days, but that usually doesn't make much difference. Putting on 476 is cheap and easy, and doesn't require me to buy yet another product.

Does this excessive brake dust problem also apply to all Mini Cooper's Too? Man alive......It's so bad, that they're starting to pitt now. Speaking of pitting, any way to remove? ScratchX, SIP? Any Ideas?

Thank you......

My wife's minivan has a serious brake dust problem. It probably has something to do with being a cheap KIA and weighing 4500 pounds?

Regardless I sealed the alum alloy wheels with Opti-Seal a couple weeks back and the next week there was dust visible but the dust seemed to be sitting on top of the wheel instead of sticking to the wheel. A quick, gentle finger swipe and the stuff came right off and looked brand new underneath. I was quite impressed to say the least. I ONR'd the van after one week and all the dust came off with minimal effort with just ONR and a cheap HF microfiber. I'm now waiting two weeks until I ONR the van to see how well it holds up. It would be three weeks since the wheels were Opti-Sealed and two ONR washes. I AW'd the paint but not the wheels so at some point the OOS has to wear off I would assume. If I can get away with OOS'ing the wheels once a month and ONR'ing them every other week I would be pretty darn happy considering how well it looks with such minimal effort.
