no words to describe how amazing this detailing was.

what have you used for the wooden parts in the interior? cant immagine it finished better than this. (what kind of wood is that anyway? seems like brazilian rose... is it?)

Its plastic clearcoated wood grain. Trated it just like paint. I used hd uno and poxy

Barry Theal- Hey, that turned out great, I bet the owner was thrilled. Heh heh, he sure got his money's worth even though I can just guess how much it cost him ;)

Man, every time you post something like that 800 grit sanding I get all :soscared: that somebody's gonna try to be all DIY-Barry Theal and get in over his head..."Don't try this at home, kids!"

Hey, you used Mirka! Why that instead of your Norton?

Oh, and what speed did you use when sanding with the XP?

I bet the car's build-quality helped you out a lot, huh? The way the calipers/etc. and interior came back...you couldn't bring a Crown Vic back from the dead like that ;)

Great work, Barry, now rest up for the next one that requires your personal touch :D

Oh, who was the shipper for the return trip? Did you use Griot's film on it?

Thanks George! This car was a blast. I think I answered all the ?'s in our phone call lol. Thanks again!

I'm really interested in your paint inspection process to make sure the paint hasn't been filled by polishes. For years I've always done the 50/50 IPA/water wipe down to apparently remove any filler or oils left behind and my litmus test for testing for truly "naked" paint was spraying some of that IPA:water solution on my fingers to dry them out and them running them across the paint. If I feel tension, that tells me the paint has nothing on it but now that I read and saw your process, which is even more involved, I'm wondering if I might be fooling myself sometimes and that in fact sometimes there still could be product on the paint. Is the IPA wipedown an acceptable substitute for your oil and filler removal process? Thanks! :xyxthumbs

Yes I have used the whole IPA thing, but have found in general it works great, but when using it to heavy in a mix it can dry to fast on the paint. I use just general windex and spike it with amonia. The amonia will remove polishing oils for sure! Windex has alcohal in it. So thats just a nother surefire way of adding to the mix. Even after all that. I have found this with ipa as well. That a good degreaser wash will make sure everything is removed! Showing the paints true surface. Bill feel free to call me anytime man if you have ?'s. I love to talk shop!

Inspirational work and write up Barry!

Used anything specific on rubber seals and exterior chrome/plastic trim (if any)?

A really interesting point was your comment on the glaze. I have used EZ, before fk1000p and after menz polishing. I think touch/slickness wise it added something (probably any glaze would). On bonding/endurance of lsp I notice no performance difference tbh vs the no glaze application.

Still a point for fruitful debate it seems, as others recommend glazing.

Thanks man! Rubber seals got treated with baby oil and chrome was treated with steel wool, glass cleaner, then a metal polish.

Great job Barry! When I saw that 800 grit paper, I got nervous, but you tackled it very nice!

800 is nothing lol thanks again man!

Looks great. I have to wonder, though, who would let a "new" car get that crappy? People amaze me.

This car wasn't new. Newly purchased yes, but the last owner didn't care for it!

Damm! That wool pad looks the size of a garbage can lid.

LOL its 8 inches! I use bigger wool pads, because I know how to. lol plus it makes up for my other lack in size. lmao!!!! its a personal thing. lol :nana:

He makes it work though Bryan, it was where he said he used 200 GRIT!! that I was nervous........and I did NOT work on the car. Great work Barry(even though I commented a minute ago on TS).

Bob I missed a zero! that was 2000 grit. Sorry about making them old bones nervous. My mistake. Hopefully all is well in the new shop. THanks again man!

Barry,

WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!! Amazing job, and it really makes me feel a little more normal when I see other detailers that aren't afraid of the wool!!!! It is also nice to see someone check their work by degreasing after the correction. I think you have inspired me to check out this 3D line, and stop buying my normal AM and Ardex. I have also been inspired to do my work truck(2006 Tahoe... dark blue), since it has never been touched, other than being waxed 3 or 4 times a year. Its been a while since I've done an all over correction, and I think my truck is a good candidate!!! I think I'll end up with more time in touch up on the hood than anything else!

Thanks man! 3D has some really great stuff from what I have played with so far.

You could not have done a better job excellent work that is true dedication. It's still strange seeing a car of this caliber as bad as it was I see it but can't believe it.

Thanks alot fish!

David I'm a product whore. You know that. I love all kinds of thing. 3D has been added to my product selection for sure. Thanks again buddy!

What a HUGE difference! I cant believe that it was THAT trashed!

It was! lol thanks.

Barry,

I got some stuff from 3D to try on my own truck, so hopefully I like it, and can downsize my arsenal of compounds and waxes!!! Where do you get those sanding discs for the PC... what backing plate??? I havent used a DA to do correction sanding since around 95... kinda forgot about it.. lol !!! Did you do the sanding wet or dry??

Man, I'd love to see the reflections off that hood... from the driver's seat!!!

Excellent write-up, great work, Barry. :cheer2:

Out of the park work, Barry!

Thanks for sharing that paint inspection mix recipe. Makes good sense! I certainly won't hesitate to call you first to get your input on any techniques I want to try to out. Thank you much for the offer. Much appreciated! :xyxthumbs

Great job on a great car. But I would use a tar remover; it´s much better, cheaper and faster to remove tar then a clay bar.

What can I say? With so many great posts, this is one of your best yet!

Wow Barry, that is one hell of a detail! I've been away from the forum somewhat lately due to work and stuff, I'm glad I found this post, you made my day.

Nice work Barry! Nice to see the new shop! Been a while since I've been up there, do you still use the garage anymore?

No not at all. I have plans to redo the thing once funds are there. I want to make a small state of the art garage for myself to house a few cars in the future. I want to knock down a wall and get rid if the attic completely and open it up to high ceilings. lol it will be a while for that though. Thats gonna take a lot of bread!

Thanyou Barry for the great breakdown of your process detailing the Bentley GT. All yeah I might have an idea where those scratches and swirls came from. Several yrs ago I witnessed this model car, in this color pulling out of a self service wash in East Lampeter township lancaster. I did not belive it at the time. Thanks Nick F

Fantastic work Barry. I don't think I could say anything than the others have not already mentioned!

Incredible transformation. I have a few questions:

- 3D interior cleaner? How would you rate that against 3D's own HD Total?

- How dirty was below the engine cover?

- What did you use mainly on the wheels?

- How fast does the 3D APC work? How strong is it on grease?

- I must be going blind, but I didn't see what you used on the paint as LSP. HD Poxy?

- Why HD Poxy on the wheels, and not something like FK1000P or Collinite IW845?

- How did you find HD UNO v3? Is the cut and shine improved over v2, or is the improvement mainly in removal?

Alex

Two things made me cringe in this detail.

1.) That any Bentley owner would let their car get this disgusting. The previous owner should be shot.

2.) Seeing you wet sand a scratch with 800 grit paper and no sanding block.

Excellent job though. That's quite a project!
