Beer Time

Just in case someone would like to try a new chili recipe:



1 lb. Ground Round

1 lb. Hot Sausage

1 Med. Onion

1 Red Bell Pepper

1 Green Bell Pepper

1 Anaheim Pepper

2 Serrano Pepper

2 Jalepeno Pepper

1 Habenaro Pepper or Some Really Hot Sauce

1/2 tsp. Crushed Garlic

1/2 tsp. Black Pepper

1 Tlbsp. Ground Cumin

1 Tlbsp. Oregano

2 12oz. Polygamy Porter, Sierra Nevada Stout, or Sierra Nevada Porter

20 oz. Tomatoe Puree

15 oz. Can Diced Tomatoes

16 oz. Can of Red Kidney Beans or Black Beans (drained)



In Place of Peppers



1 Tlbsp. Susitna Blend or

1-2 tsp. Penzy'sChili Con-Carne Blend or

3 Tlbsp. Penzy's Hot Chili Powder Blend or any combo of all 3



Today I added 2 Tlbsp. of Penzy's Hot Chili Powder Blend in addition to the peppers, they ran out of haberno's so I use quite a few drop's of Melinda's XXXXtra Reserve Habanero Pepper Sauce (my first time using this product).
 
I do say the Chili came out very nicely. Not as hot as I usually make it, so it is easily to eat. One of the best batches to date.
 
i'll have to look for the AS Christmas Ale. i tried my first Anchor Steam ale the other night. it was good, but i can't say that it stood out in any way.



last night i had a smuttynose positively porter. i have to say that porters and stouts all seem to be cold weather beers to me. it's been 60+ degrees here in west virginia for the last couple of days. i sat outside last night in shorts by a little fire and had the porter. it wasn't quite as good as i had anticipated.



i'll have to check out a couple of christmas ales soon.

Yes, Stouts especially Imperial Stouts, BarleyWines, Winter Warmers are great for the colder temps. I also like Double IPAs, Strong Dark Ales, American Strong Ales for the colder temps. I hear Smutty Nose is a great brewery, someday I hope to get some.

Sorry you weren't too happy with the smuttynose. I can't get their stuff very often out here in OR, but I remember really liking a lot of their stuff when I lived back east. I thought it was a pretty good brewery.

there are several other smuttynose brews that i have yet to try, so there will be more opportunities to try this brewery. the porter is just the first one that i've tried. i'll pick a couple of the others up before long, as i seem to be cruising through the beer aisles of the local "total wine" store every couple of weeks. reading through this thread keeps me wanting to try new beers.
 
picked up a six-pack of anchor steam christmas ale on friday. this has been a decent beer, although like the original anchor steam, it leaves a little aftertaste. pretty decent beer. going to try some other christmas ales this year.
 
Good for you. Just to let you know, it's Anchor Brewing Company, not Anchor Steam. Anchor Steam is a beer they make, it's a Steam Beer. The Christmas Ale is a Winter Warmer, quite different then the Steam Beer. Have fun finding some nice brew's for the Winter months, there are alot out there. Barleywines and Imperial Stouts also make a nice brew for the colder months.
 
You guys probably thought I gave up drinking, LOL Not yet. I've been hitting the local scene trying new seasonals and having an oldie but goodie the past few days. Well, today it is a nice sunny mid 50s day here in Layton and I doing some grilling. My beer of choice is a 750ml Fatome La Gourmande, a Saison clocking in at 7% ABV, quite a different Saison at that, if you ever had a Saison Dupont you will be in for a treat with this one. A pretty complex brew and very tasty.
 
Has anyone heard of Pink Elephant Beer? So good....from New Zealand. Definitely very strong (You have been warned) but delicious. I have had the Strong Pale Ale (at least that I think it was a Pale Ale). they pour at this pub down the street from me. Worth trying if you can find it! Happy Drinking
