Beer Time

Victory popped up in my hometown, Downingtown, but unfortunately not until after I'd left. I make sure to pick some up whenever I head back for a visit, though. Living in Portland, OR now, so I get plenty of microbrews out here. :)

If you like hoppy beers, check out some of the various offering from Elysian out of Seattle, if you can find it. Every single one of their beers I've had has been great, but their distribution isn't the greatest. Their winter beer, the Bifrost, is particularly good. Strong, hoppy, but not too heavy, like some winter beers can be.

Did someone say hops?

also some bells off to the corner there. Beer guys can't help but drool when they're in my kitchen.

Believe it or not, Sly Fox makes an IPA that rivals the Stone.

In my fridge right now are various samplings from dogfish, victory, three floyds, stone....

You should be checking some Rogue or Deschutes out also.

Oh yes, big fan of both Rogue and Deschutes... Most of what I buy is usually Deschutes, actually. Bachelor ESB on a nice summer day, Mirror Pond or Black Butte Porter pretty much any time of year, and Jubelale in the winter. The rogue beers are great, but the 22oz. bombers are so expensive. Although the Rogue Pub has a case sale every major holiday, and that's usually a good time to pick up a case of 22oz bottles at more reasonable prices.

John, I saw in the other beer thread that you had tried or planned to try Terminal Gravity IPA. That's very good stuff, too. They've recently expanded their distribution and you can get it on tap at a lot of places in town now. It used to be pretty hard to find, even though it's from Oregon.

There are lots of good small brewpubs here in town that don't bottle, or have very limited bottling. I like to pick of a growler of whatever I'm in the mood for, from time to time.

Anyone ever winds up in Portland and wants to hit some of our local brewpubs, let me know. Better yet, the last full weekend in July every year is the Oregon Brew Fest in downtown Portland. 72 microbreweries bring 1 beer each, some even brew a special beer just for the Brew Fest. Always a good time.

:D

I noticed that you have Pete's Wicked Winter Ale up there, I love that stuff.

Are they still in business?

I have never had any Bell's, so that's why I missed them, LOL I'll have to look into the Sly Fox.

I usually get the Rogue for 2.99 a bomber I believe. Yes, I've had the Terminal Gravity already, very tasty, will be getting some more in the near future. I know about the Brew Fest, one of these days I will have to attend one. This Saturday there's one in ID.

MMMMMmmmm..... Hop Devil!!!

For the past few weeks I've just been finishing off a mix of Sam Adams (Winter Ale, Boston Ale and Boston Lager). I also picked up a mixer case of Saranac summer beers, there are a few tasty brews in there.

Ahhh Rogue, haven’t had that since 2 summers ago when I passed out on the back deck and continued to drink 6 more Rogue Ales.... Good times :hifive:

This is what I hope to be drinking soon:

5 gallons of a home brew hodge-podge, should be ready to bottle in a few days, it smells awesome, nice and hoppy.

Are you fermenting in a plastic bucket? Only time I used mine was for bottling. Personal preference, I guess, but I always fermented in a glass carboy with a blowoff tube into a container of water. Then I usually racked it to a second carboy (with an airlock on top) to pull it off the sediment & help clearing.

Kinda makes me wish I hadn't tossed all my homebrew equipment last year but, alas, I never have the time any more.

Best batch I ever did was an IPA with an alcohol content somewhere in the 6's. Although... now that I think of it, I made a sweet porter that was absolutely incredible.

Cheers-

Yeah I like the plastic, broke far to much glass while drinking and brewing :) I'm still new to the homebrew thing, but it's a good time. Gotta run to the brew store today and get a few more fermenters, gotta brew a few more beer types. Did you extract brew or steep? Tossed all the equiptment? What a shame :( But I guess it is much much easier to buy beer, and with all the good stuff out there nowadays it's good times for sure.

Don't know about shrinking the pics, maybe someone else can chime in. I want to see both, LOL Glad to hear you had some good brew's at your wedding, not the typical crap going around.

I've had and really enjoyed the Deschutes Obsidian Stout, nice smooth and dark. Much like Guinness it's great cool not cold. Drank a whole lot of Bass :brit tonight (last night? whatever time it is?!?), I forgot how good some of the bigger brews really are.
