WRX Update on bottom of Page 3

With the reformation of Autopia and myself being extremely busy, I leave you with a graphic intensive post. It has been quite the week and I will only post up the full jobs as the washes have become second nature and not enough of a turn around for me to post.

First up, a 1989 Ford Mustang GT in need of some SERIOUS TLC! This interior was damn near perfect so no pics. I was extremely surprised by the cleanliness so I was able to concentrate on real fine tuning areas like thin cracks and crevices. The exterior was a far different story :(.

The front nose and rear bumper were repainted and pretty poorly at that. The hood had the lovely zebra stripes...I mean buffer holograms and left with terrible orange peel. The rest of the single stage black was damn near scoured, as it should be after 16 years sans polishing. It was also oxidized a bit. The owner trusted my work and what I could do with the vehicle to bring it back. Final processes:

-NXT Wash

-PB Clay with NXT wash as lube

-Menzerna Powergloss via rotary and LC Cutting Pad x 2 (!!!)

-Menzerna Final Polish II via rotary and LC Polishing Pad

-Menzerna Final Polish II via rotary and LC Finishing Pad on hood (the most slight buffer haze but I needed it gone for my sanity)

-Poorboy's EX by hand

-Eagle 1 Wheel Acid on wheels cut 50/50 to clean, then the rims/tires/wells dressed with Hyper Dressing cut 3:1 and wiped dry after 10 mins

-Meguiar's Trim Detailer on plastic/flat black paint

***My apologies for the after shots. The sun disappeared and was in and out for the remainder of the day.

Next up, a new R6, or semi new...only 2k miles. Great shape but needed some light swirl/scratch removal and an overall polishing/protecting of everything. Final processes:

-S+W (no need for clay)

-Detailer's Pride Mild Swirl Remover by hand and terry towel folded in 8ths (:bow to Scottwax for removing defects by hand...I was sweating bad after doing just this bike :D)

-Klasse AIO by hand on EVERYTHING

-Pinnacle Liquid Souveran by hand on all paint

-Flitz on the tailpipe

-Adam's VRT on plastic and vinyl

Swirly free :).

Next, a Legacy GT Wagon. Relatively new but already 40k on the clock. The car wash detailers left some haze on the hood and the car had light swirling throughout. Nothing crazy, just an exterior, so final processes:

-NXT Wash

-PB Clay with NXT Wash as lube

-Menzerna Final Polish II via rotary and LC Polishing Pad @ 1500 rpm (x2 on hood)

-Poorboy's EX by hand

-Adam's DS on wheels

-PB BnB on tires

-Meguiar's HD (3:1) in wells

I bet that mustang owner was thrilled with those results. Awesome work there Sean!

I've never heard you mention using the FPII + Finishing pad. Do you find this is common when detailing black vehicles?

JJ

Next up, a modded WRX for a fellow Autopian (Magnum626). Great car, clean, yet effective mods. We had nice chats all day about all of the garbage on the roads now adays all the way down to cop stories. Thanks for lunch Chris! No interior or engine shots as they weren't very drastic. The interior took me a while but I think came out quite nice. Final processes:

-NXT Wash

-PB Clay with NXT Wash as lube

-Menzerna Powergloss via rotary and LC Cutting Pad @ 1500 rpm after wetsanding a few touch up marks

-Optimum Polish via rotary and LC Light Cutting Pad @ 1500 rpm

-Menzerna Final Polish II via rotary and LC Polishing Pad @ 1500 rpm

-Menzerna Final Polish II via rotary and LC Finishing Pad @ 1500 rpm on hood (slight hazing)

-Duragloss #111 by hand

-Auto Magic's Seal-It on rims and emblems

-Poorboy's BnB on tires

-Meguiar's Hyper Dressing (3:1) in wells

-Adam's VRT on plastic

Again, my apologies for the lighting. I ended up finishing around 7 pm.

Last up, Acura MDX.

Wish I had interior pics as they have 2 young children. I'm kicking myself in the ***, they would've made great pics, but oh well. The exterior needed some work but the befores were too dark for a good comparo. No heavy swirl removal or anything, just a nice cleanup. Final processes:

-NXT Wash

-Tarminator out the ying yang for a lot of bug and tar cleanup

-Meguiar's #66 via rotary and LC Polishing Pad @ 1500 rpm

-TOL's Trade Secret spit shined by hand with 4* Spray Wax

-Optimum's Tire Dressing on the tires

-Meguiar's HD in the wells

VERY happy with this combo :)

Oh yeah, the other day, picking up breakfast, I saw this huge bus in the parking lot...Hmm, what is this doing in Norwalk, CT???

Enjoy folks :D.

I screwed up the flow of your thread. My apologies! Your work is awesome though! I especially like the last pic.... awesome

JJ

Those are some incredible details! I hope i can achieve the results you do one day. I dont know that i can with a pc tho.. Ill have to think about getting a rotary. What happened to the car? i see the dent in the front right fender? I dont remember you posting about that. Sorry just had to ask.

OMG, the GGW pic is hilarious! Anyway, it's official Sean you are a detailing god. You and Scottwax's threads are ones that I go straight to to see results. Awesome job!

Sean, in that last pic, are my eyes playing with me, or does your front fender have a big dent in it??

I see what you mean Dookie. In the front quarter panel and just to the upper rear of the front marker lamp. I would assume that is a reflection.

JJ: Only on repaints have I had a problem with extremely fine micro-marring.

Thomas: Roughly 7 hours with interior, exterior, engine, and wetsanding. I took my time and the paint needed some TLC.

random and Jdookie: Yup, back in December my car got hit and runned upon. I still haven't got it all squared away (buffed away the transfer, but the dent still remains).

Holy Swirl Mark Batman!

Did they use an SOS pad attached to a PC on "6" to challenge you or something?

P.S. Having seen the women of Norwalk I also wonder what Girls Gone Wild is doing there. ;)
