Are M105/M205 the "Flavor of the Moment?"

Uh, just like PO106 and SIP were a couple months ago, or how OHC and OP were a year ago.

Thats what I dont get about this forum, yall go through so many darn product "fads".

Could be but I don't think the menzerna or the optimum does for the pc what m105/205 have done for it.

Its totally changed the game for us pc owners. The pc has always had the ability to correct, but the megs SMAT has brought that correc0ting power/potential to another level

id like to know as well please

Since "Flavor of the Month" is often used to describe ice cream...

I would say that M105 and M205 should be thought of as Vanilla and Chocolate.:hifive:

They're more like the anchor flavors that any reputable ice cream shop or restaurant should NEVER run out of!

In terms of versatility, I would say that EITHER one of these will outperform ANY other liquid on the market.

I have been able to remove heavy defects and sanding marks using a random-orbital with EITHER liquid.

I have been able to remove heavy defects and sanding marks using a rotary with EITHER liquid.

Then, using the same machine and liquid, I have been able to final polish the paint to an incredible finish.

Even though they are designed as paint polishes, I regularly use them to polish stainless steel, aluminum, and chrome.

Yes, chrome! I'll tell you something else- M105 will REMOVE scratches in chrome, not just add fine scratches to the chrome like many abrasive metal polishes will.

Plus- I use M105 on glass, and I use M105 & M205 to polish plexiglas & other acrylics.

Put the time into learning these liquids, and you will likely be as impressed with them as am I.

Certainly, there are times when another liquid will deliver a superior result on a given paint job, but overall... this combination is tough to beat!

By the way... Don't count out M86 So1o Cut & Polish Cream to give them BOTH a run for the money!

KevinBrown. Mind telling me your method of removing swirls from chrome with m105?

My chrome trim brings me to tears.

The problem with them being "Vanilla and Chocolate" is as all compounds to they will eventually change the formula yet again. They've already done it once to 105 who's to say the next version of the product that comes out will perform or act anywhere close to the same manner as it does now? Nothing really. Who know's what's going to dictate that change? Customer demand or legal legislation that says you can no longer use mineral "X" in anything you produce anymore and that is the key ingredient to these. (the VOC laws change all the time and effects this directly) So in that aspect I would definatly call these the flavor of the moment. Because eventually they will change and no one can say in a 100% certiany that the next version of it will perform in the same manner. Hopefully they will continue to perform well. But only time will tell for sure.

In that regards, anything is a flavor of the month because of voc laws.

IMO a flavor of the month is more so everyone hyping up a sealant for some time and than all the sudden you hear nothing about it because a new "glossier longer lasting" sealant has come along.

Chocolate chip... basically vanilla with chocolate tidbits. Mmm.

Ice cream with M&M's? Vanilla with chocolate again. Sure, there's a little hard candy added, but overall the chocolate is the dominant flavor.

Vanilla Fudge Swirl is good, too. So are flavors that feature fudge or brownies or other delectable chocolate-based treats.

Overall, vanilla paired with the chocolate is a devastatingly simple yet delightful treat.

I think we can lock this thread down now, as I am heading to Baskin Robbins. :woot:

Well, I use 3" pads on my Metabo SXE400 random orbital, but you can use a small backing plate and pad set-up on the PC, too.

A foam cutting pad works well. So does a good polishing pad. I use a good amount of downward pressure, and mist water of the chrome as I polish.

Here's the thing.... BE CAREFUL !!!!

Although chrome plating is very hard and durable, it is applied THINLY.

If you polish too much, before you know it you'll be through the chrome and into the nickel plating. If this happens, you should consider the results as falling into the DISASTER category.

So, apply some M105, polish the area but check your work OFTEN (like every pass if you are using a lot of pressure, or light pressure a a high rotational speed).

You can even try to apply the M105 by hand. It is impressive.

Just be CAREFUL!

I was just gonna say that. Thread closed, because Kevin made everyone hungry.

Have not tried 205 yet, but 105 is by far the most effective ""compound" I have ever used. Definately not the flavor of the month. Just try it once on some deep defect and compare anything else to it. As of now it is the best polish in my book.:xyxthumbs:xyxthumbs:xyxthumbs:xyxthumbs:xyxthumbs to MEGUIAR'S

No offense... but I think you missed the point of the OP completely.

"Flavor of the month" refers to products that generate huge hype, everyone raves about, and then within a month or a few it falls off the radar. Think of it like the Macarena dance/song....everyone thought it rocked, and then after awakening from a trance realized it was horrible.

M105 and M205 have some substantial testing and backing behind them. Rarely does a "FOTM" come from Meguiar's because they test and test and test before ever releasing their products.

Beyond that, huge name like Kevin Brown have obviously proven with very scientific, thorough, and undeniable tests that these products are the real deal.

Yes, M105 was changed fairly soon after release. This is very rare for Meguiar's products, but it was in response to customer complaints/suggestions. I would call that a good thing overall. That said, Meguiar's has products that have remained UNCHANGED for DECADES.

The VOC has caused issues with products like M16, but that product was developed long before the VOC was a thought. Now, products are designed with the intention (at least at Meguiar's) of lasting a very, very long time in the market.

I would bet money that M105 AND M205 will remain popular for an extremely long time...they are real products that let their results speak for themselves...no cute marketing names or extra tiny containers and absurd prices putting them on the radar :bigups

Why does something have to be horrible to be a "flavor of the month"? What if next month Menzerna comes out with new polishes that are even better than 105/205, and the month after that Optimum tops that, and the month after that someone else does, and the month after maybe Meg's will come out with something new. You guys make it sound like progress will stop now for some reason, that everyone including Meg's, will just give up on developing new polishes because 105/205 are so good.

I really like both. For cutting I mostly use Farécla Total Dry Use Compound and M105. If I need a polishing step I use Menzerna PO203, RD3.02 or PO203S. And then for finishing, PO85RD or M205. The finish achieved by M205 via rotary and a soft finishind pad is amazing, what a beautiful shine.
