Anything better than Dawn for stripping?

Prior to doing a full detail, I like to get the surface as clean and wax-free as possible. Dawn seems to work real good, and it's cheap. Is there anything better than Dawn for simply stripping the finish down to begin a detail?
 
Dawn isn't necessary. Between claying, and/or polishing, all previous chemicals will be removed for your detail. Dawn washing is definitely *not* the thing to do anymore. Just use your regular car wash shampoo that you would normally use, and detail your heart out. :xyxthumbs
 
Ok...so what's cheaper and/or better than Dawn? What products would you recommend over simple Dawn, and why? What would the benefits of a different wash product be? Thanks for the advice.

what could be cheaper than something that you are going to do anyway?
 
That won't really matter. I have detailed my car before and not been happy with the final product, and started completely over, and didn't have a problem. Simple products like Klasse AIO, Sonus Paintwork Cleanser, Zaino AIO, etc. all remove lsp's with no problem, so when using abrasive polishes, lsp's don't stand a chance.



Just regular wash with car wash shampoo, clay, and polish. You will be good as new.
 
Any good car wash will work. Meg's NXT or Gold Class, Pinnacle Bodywork Shampoo, Poorboy's Super Slick and Suds, Optimum Car Wash, Zaino Z-7, etc.
 
Is it just me or does anyone else have the urge to sledgehammer cobrar face in? Is he that dense?

The question hasn't been answered once. I'm not asking if clay and polish will work to give me a clean detail start...I already know it does. I'm not asking what car wash products are available on the market...I already know what's out there. I'm not asking if other people use Dawn...I don't care.



I'm asking, "WHAT TYPE OF CAR WASHES ARE PEOPLE ON HERE USING AND WHY?"



I'm would expect a response such as...I use CG Strong Wash because it removes most bugs and tar with no scrubbing and takes the dirt off with great particle suspension and no marring.

sorry to say, ive just used one wash (newbie), blue coral wash with carnauba...not alot of suds or lubricity...im looking for a wash too..thinking about megs gc

Heh heh, sorry to see you got a lot of answers that weren't related to your question. Seems like any mention of "Dawn" can bring that about ;)



If I want to completely strim whatever's on there, two things have worked better than Dawn for me: P21S Total Auto Wash and the "A" part of AutoInt's ABC decontamination system. The latter will really get things squeaky clean and TAW is a mild way to do it that also works fairly well.



For regular washing I use Griot's Car Wash, which has great lubricity, cleans well, and is very gentle on my LSPs (sometimes I'm amazed at how little effect it has on them). IF something won't come off with the Griot's I reach for the Sonus green clay.



Saumil- In my experience a lot of OTC washes lack lubricity. The GC isn't bad in that regard and if you can find Duragloss I hear it's very good (autopaint/body supply places often have it and they might have Meguiar's #62 too which is also very good stuff).
