Im actually washing them right now and just inspected them and all of my pads have no hole in them except my green sonus. Its like something is nawing at it.

Just like mine are in the pics??

My old CMA pad (1 of 5) that has really been abused (not washed for days after using them - many times) alot and still holing up.

My new TOL orange pad after using it on half of a car.

Do I need a different backing plate with these pads?

Well I know my problem does not consist of a big backing plate, its the one that comes with my sonus kit. I just find it hard to beleive that to much product would do this but on the other hand I beleive it because you can c product on the back side of the pad. Very very strange!!!!!

tdekany- I've never seen a pad do what your orange pad did. What size backing plate and counter weight do you use?

what ever came with the Coastal tool kit - the weight is 6 and the plate is 5.5? the cma pad is a perfect fit.

Im only familiar with sonus pads and backing plate so I couldnt be of much help. As far as washing them...tonite is a new technique, I usually wash them buy hand with sonus der wunder wach but was not getting the results I desired. Right now I have them in delicate bags in the washer on a warm water wash and warm water rinse. Im going to follow up with vinegar, I stole the idea from JDookie.

Tdekany& oaevo8u- What do you guys use to wash your pads? And what is your technique?

I use IVORY dishwashing liquid.

technique?

1 I soak them for a while, sometimes too long.

2 squeeze the pad to get most of the product/dirt out under running water

3 pour ivory on it

4 fold it in half to get the cleaner all over the pad

5 put it in the sink and I start punching it with both fists to produse sud and get remaining junk out.

6 under running water I squeeze it until suds are gone and pad looks clean.

BTW, the TOL pad was brand new in its own sealed bag.

That is very similar to what I do. Sometimes I use laundry detergent or woolite. If that doesn't cut it I use dish detergent. Which could be contributing to the velcro seperaration as well:nixweiss

Im going to ask David B. or Sonus or some one who would know why these pads are coming apart. Im very gentle and delicate when it comes to my pads.

I have had some of my LC pads delaminate around the center hole and LC tech rep will say that they now have a dedicated line just for the DA and orbital polishers that won't do that.

tdekany - My TOL orange pads (2) did the same thing as yours, and the velcro peeled off the back. I only used them maybe 4 times each.I just called TOL today and asked for exchange or refund and they said they would call me back so I'm waiting for them.

I would say as the Velcro backing on the pad is separating it allows the pad to wobble a bit, and that motion allows the Velcro on the backing plate to chew the foam through the hole.

I'd certainly go along with that theory.

I haven't had this problem with any of my pads, but then I don't use them day in day out.

Just try a different brand and see if you still get the problem.

Do you use the PC on speed 6 alot?... that might be a cause.

My Meguiar's pads do that all the time. The backing comes off because of the heat being transfered through the pad is melting the glue. As the glue melts it makes the backing slide around and that center hole is ripped up because of the velcro on the backing plate. Its just what happpens I guess... I haven't had it happen with Edge pads or the Sonus pads. So far I have not found a good way to avoid this problem. I just make sure I always have another pad on hand just in case the backing falls off unexpectedly while on a job.

Well, a TOL representative called back and said they couldn't replace them because they are 3 month old. Seems short lived for pads I used 4 times. Anyway, would contacting LC be of any use being they manufactured the pads? Otherwise I'm gonna throw my next purchase to autogeek for some edge pads and other products.

I am pretty dissapointed with TOL's customer service.

1-Male or frmale, they don't seem to know much about their products

2-I asked to ship it USPS instead of UPS for 2 reason: much faster and nearly half the price. I never received an e mail about the new shipping charges so when I called to inquire about it, the person on the other end seemed irritated because I asked a couple of questions.

I don't think I will be ordering from TOL in the future.
