Any other Car-audio geeks on here?

Crossfire makes some pretty good amps though, reasonably priced.
I myself have never used Crossfire amps, but I have a few friends who do and I haven't heard many complaints about them. I think they are a decent amp for a mid-level system.

I love the JL series!

Right now I'm sporting the Pioneer Premier DEH6MP head unit
2 10" Kicker Comp VR's in the extended cab custom box
2 Alpine KX650's
5.25 Kicker door components
Infinity rear door 4X6
1.5 farad cap
2 guage wires
Audio Control Epicenter

She screams nice and loud and sounds really clear. I used to play with 3 15" Cerwin Vegas and a ghetto cruch amp...you could hear me a few blocks away, I got over that now and went for some sound quality. When I get the coin, I'm getting some MB Quart Q series...amazing sound! :eek

You know if you are thinking of checking out some high-end components, I HIGHLY recommend the DynAudio stuff. It is absolutely amazing. But the cost is ridiculously steep, but man oh man, you get what you pay for. The only downside is they are the most powerhungry seperates out there, you have to run some serious wattage to them, but the payoff is clear, perfect response mids and highs that are completely unparralleled. I promised myself that I would have a set of these before I turn 30. 5 years to go!

I run a set of boston acustics z6 compononets with an old eclipse 6v that i had left from an old set up after my 8v got damaged when somoene tried to steal it and dmg is not coverd under warenty! All powered with a JL 300/2. Sounds amazing! Just with I had my old 8v back. Stupid theives. I'll probably throw a 500/1 and a 12w7 in this summer.

2 12" ID max subs one zapco 9.0 one zapco 6.0 DLS iridium speakers in custom kick panels. Eclipse headunit. 3 first place SQ comp trophies!

I've hear some prety good things about zapco. Never heard them or seen them localy tho. What are they the closest to in comparison?

Zapco simply stated is the best. I have never heard anything the compares to the clarity and crispness that is Zapco amps.
The studio series is the most impressive line-up I have ever seen. The last time I saw Zapco amps they ran about $1,400 for a 400x4. But you get more than your money's worth with Zapco IMO.

you get what u pay for with car audio no matter what it is. i got my amps that were used for about 3 weeks from my boss, who owns a shop i got both of those amps for 2500 which is sick. my speakers for 300 they retail for 1500, made my own kick panels, got wires for free and got my 2 subs for cost. i love it!!!

Woops! Sorry, I meant 100x4

Im a car audio geek myself. Glad there are others abound!

Ive been dabbling with it for years. I start to lose interest for a while, then I get the bug again. I currently run (2)Alpine V12 Expert amps (900 watts RMS and 320 watts RMS), an Eclipse 5423 HU, JL XR components and (3) 10" JL 10W6's in a sealed box. Sounds great, but I always wonder if the grass is greener...;)

Since Im an engineer by profession, I dig all aspects of it...right down the the resistance calculations and box design, so if anyone has questions and thinks I may be able to help, feel free to ask!

I remember when I took physics my junior year of high school. I was always known to be kind of a slacker, basically a C and B student. At this point in high school I had been into car audio for a few years, when we got to the portion of the course that involved electricity I literally decimated the curve. The teacher actually accused me of cheating because I was getting 100% on all the tests and quizzes. He asked me how I knew all this stuff already, and I broke out a schematic for a system that I was designing at the time, all labeled with proper physics notations, resistances, impedance everything. I just showed that to him and said, this is what I do all day everyday. After that he thought I was like Rain Man or something.

is that the new one with the touch-screen navigation system? If so I am going to stop by your house and rob you.

unfortunatly it is not the one with navi. i considered the double din unit with the navigation, but for sound quality purposes i leaned more towards this model. the one you are referring to only has 5 volt pre outs where as this one has 8 volt pre outs. I am pretty hardcore into SQ comp so i opted for the 8v with no navi but im still extremely happy

what are brands to avoid? for amps subs etc

I just drop by the local shops and I saw brand like Boss, Jensen, Thunder, MBQuartz (sp?)

Thanks

all t hose brands pretty much suck for audio except mb quart. mb was alot better back in the day. i for speakers i prefer DLS, CDT, boston, or Rainbow

Yeah I agree MBQuart kinda went lame when they got bought out by ADS or ADL or whatever that company's name is. They still make fairly good speakers but nowhere near what they were making in 98' 99'.

Referring to your pre-out voltage, I completely agree. I went from a 4V out to a 8V years ago. I was always of the opinion that pre-out voltage didn't make a difference, I was completely convinced a block away from the stereo shop.

Car Audio Junkie here. I used to compete locally on the IASCA circuit. SQ+.

Currently-
-Alpine CDA-9835 Head
-Eclipse 3640 4 Channel amp pushing
-(2) sets of CDT Audio EF-61 Components. 1 set in the doors, 1 set on the floor in kick panels.
-Punch 50 pushing Alpine Type-R (6X9) coaxials in the rear
-Alpine MRD-501 pushing (2) Adire audio 8's.

The head is really great b/c I have my IPOD hooked up through the IPOD/Alpine interface. Also, I can control the sub amp from the head. Fun stuff.

WOOOOHOOOO
