Am I on the right track?

I'm new at this machine polishing. I have a PC 7336SP that I used to apply Zaino Z2 with a Griots orange polish pad at about a 2 setting. The Zaino seemed to go on very evenly and the PC saved a lot of arm strain, although I used more Zaino than I figured I would. Nevertheless, I was very happy with how this part of the process worked.

My trouble was with removing the Zaino. It was a warm day and I use the accelerant ZFX, so I know the Zaino was dry after 1/2 hour. I used a microfiber bonnet on the PC to remove the Zaino. For the most part, this worked very well, however there are spots where it seems the Zaino was thicker that the microfiber bonnet did not remove the Zaino, no matter how long I moved the PC over the spot. I did not want to heat up the paint, so I was not overzealous with the amount of time or the pressure I put on the PC. I even tried increasing the speed of the PC, going as high as 4 or 4.5. This helped a bit, but there were spots of Zaino I still had to buff off by hand.

Is this typical, or am I doing something wrong. All advice is appreciated!

MF bonnets seem to get clogged up quickly for me so I never use them for LSP removal. Try a good plush MF towel. Fold it in half twice, and now you have 4 surfaces to remove haze.

Welcome Tundra.

Applying Z2 by hand is the way to go. If you have to, read a few past post on it. It is a very easy product by hand. You can then judge the amount used. There is not hard rubbing to apply or remove. If you can see it going on, it might be a waste. I use about 1/3 of an oz per coat. I prime my hand pad with Z6 and maybe a drop or two as the process goes.

If you have problems removing Z2 than Z6 should work. And apply another coat of Z2.

Disclaimer- I've never used Zaino.

TundraBarNone- If you used the MF bonnet from Griot's, that might be part of the problem. I *love* MF bonnets for LSP removal, use 'em all the time and never have problems with them loading up (but then I do have a scad of 'em just in case). But the Griot's MF bonnets were among my "return to vendor" items. They didn't work worth anything, just slipped around on the foam pad and never removed much product. Other MF bonnets from other sources work much better for me, even the Meguiar's one which appeared identical to the Griot's bonnet. You might want to look into the suede-style MF bonnets from TOL and the "natural fiber MF" one from DFTowel. The Cobra brand MF bonnets are just a *little* too coarse for some (very) soft paints, but other than those I like all the MF bonnets except the ones from Griot's.

And of course if you're using somebody else's MF bonnet then most of what I posted above is just wasted bandwidth :o

Good advice.. thanks. Part of my problem may have been that I let the MF bonnet load up too much. I did notice the Zaino building up in the bonnet. I guess at that point I should have brushed it out or switched bonnets? Your advice to try a different brand is also well taken. I'll look into that.

And note that Zaino is one of those "the thinner the better" products. When I use KSG (sorta similar in that sense) I can do our entire minivan with one or two bonnets (and another MF for a final pass by hand). Using less product will have all sorts of benefits and it's pretty incredible just how little you really need to apply.
