All Fired Up!

You know those stories you hear about someone almost burning down their house from cleaning their oven?

Well Sheila has done it again. :passout:

I think she just likes attention.

The oven was filled with fire and our whole house filled with smoke in minutes and there we are in the street waiting for the fire truck.

Instead 2 fire trucks, an ambulance and a fire chief show up. All with sirens and lights blaring. (very quiet neighborhood) :yikes:

We are fairly new to the neighborhood so this was our way of announcing our presence.

They ventillated the house for us and everything is fine. Sheila got a lesson on how to properly clean a gas oven. (We've always had electric.)

I was very calm and understanding about the whole thing.:notme:

Okay,

In my defense....I have never had to call the fire department:mad:! The only reason I did was because the oven was an inferno and we have natural gas!

I was on the phone with the 911 operator Yelling "How do I turn the gas off????" She said she didn't know, she wasn't here.

Thankfully, even though it was overkill on their part, the nice firemen showed us how to turn it off! They said it was their third call tonight already!!:wow:

Lesson learned and the best thing is that no one got hurt and the house is still standing...So how are the neighbors anyway?

You mean it WAS a quit neighborhood til the Armstrong's moved in
The important thing is that everyone is alright.

Troy, you can't be too harsh on Sheila. She was just trying to get everything all nice and clean to prepare a holiday feast for her family.
That and don't upset the cook, you don't want to have to check your mashed potatoes for glass or something :lol2:

Happy Thanksgiving

Some of the members involved with fire or rescue work will probably chime in, but I would bet that they prefer to have you call and send too much equipment rather than have you try to handle things on your own.

It would be interesting to know what percentage of major house fires could have been minimized if the fire department had been called earlier.
The DIY approach is probably not advisable in this instance. :)

:hmmm: :idea we could have sent Pockets :D

I would have paid good money to see that. Wonder how the turkey will turn out? Wait till you see the bill from the Fire Department/Ambulance.:D

I don't think they will be getting a bill....at least we don't do that around here (i think lol).

Glad everything is ok troy.....better to call then to have your house burn down for something stupid...when we come in we check around the oven with a thermal image camera as to check for heat related fire. So its good that she called up

Hence the smiley, it was meant in jest. I can tell you that if you take a ride in an ambulance that was sent to your residence and travel about 20 miles (at least in my area) it's over $3,000. One of my father's friends just got the bill for it a week ago.
