Ages

52 here. Similar to what lawencea said, I really looked after my first brand new bike from about age 9. Before that bike I had hand-me-downs which I didn't look after too much.

The big motivator is when people notice and comment so you just go harder at it to maintain the "image".

I am still daunted by the diligence that many Autopians put into their detailing. I have a long way to go.

I'm 25, and have been detailing (in Autopian terms) since March the beginning of the year and have just set up my own company doing so.

I've been an avid car care enthusiast since I was 17, but when I look back on what I used to do it scares me :scared: (anyone care to join me in the "putting wax on/off with an old T-shirt and then blaming an "abraisive wax" for all the swirl marks" camp?!) :nervous:

Ha Ha - I remember putting on an taking off Mer and AG SRP with old T shirts! I must have been lucky and them being soft as I didnt seem to cause too many swirls!

46 - have been hand washing/waxing my cars since buying first one back in 1976 but I didn't get into seriously detailing them until meeting Gary (the originator of this thread) on a car forum almost two years ago. I hold him personally responsible for my addiction :grinno:

Just turned 34. Been detailing since I bought my first new car in 1990. Washed and waxed that red car every week, I lived in Fl and was young enough to have the time. Been detailing to Autopian standards for 2 years now :)

I'm 48 years old been doing Pro Landscape Mainteance for 18 years but I aways loved detailing my cars/truck so I got into Detailing a few years ago.

Also only time I come here is when I'm have a few beers and then typing really sucks so...

Anyway I think someone was saying that they are going to give ScottWax a Party in his Honer looks like one heck of a party lots of women, beer, and food.

Just turned 52 yesterday. Been detailing and "modding" cars since my parents gave me my first slot car racing set at 8 or 9 y.o. for Xmas.

Too long ago to be exact. ;)

21 here. At the age of ten I received my first 18-speed mountain bike- solid black with the hologram chrome lettering on the frame. I kept that thing clean and waxed from the get-go. It was a rather "hard" learning curve as dressing the seat, pedals, and entire tires led to many scars that I still have today. I've had nothing but black means of transportation since then, always hand washing. I've yet to consider myself capable of "real" detailing YET, but thanks to all the helpful folks and the people who are so generous to take the time to run this site, I am getting there :dance

I'm 17, have been detailing with my dad on his cars since I can remember and started my business (barely a business) when I was 16 and found Autopia when I was 17 (this year) and have been overly obsessed ever since.

This is a interesting thread, funny to see how old and young some people are. Had me thinking some were older, some were younger then they really are.

38 here, started in 1987 with a paint deoxidation business. Was partime for the first years, doing other jobs. Been fulltime for 13 years, reached 10,000 cars a while back.

Yeah, I always think the same thing when we discuss ages..

I'm forty-five going on twelve. detailing to one degree or another over thirty of those years, always obsessed with keeping things cleaner and shinier and better tuned and faster. always tweaking something or taking stuff apart and putting it back together... interiors, exteriors, mechanicals. don't get me started on sound systems and lighting. finding just the right tires. name it.

but it took a couple of years or so hanging out on this forum before I thought taking sand paper to one of my cars would be a sane thing to do.
