A touch of Klasse on a Custom Firebird...

Finally, FINALLY i got to detail my car last saturday after waiting forever for all my toys, porter cable, and everything else, and also waiting for the paint to fully cure. Let me know what you think guys. Yeah i wish i had more pics but i was running out of light.

Background:

Car is a 2002 Firebird Transam WS6. Original color Navy Blue Metallic.

Repainted with viper blue basecoat and corvette z06 electron blue.

Process and items used:

Washed using Pinnacle Bodywork Shampoo and a microfiber bonnet. Dried with a pakshak large drying towel and leaf blower.

Applied SMR with a yellow pad with my porter cable 7424 just to make sure i kill off any swirls.

Once that was done i immediately applied AIO with a white pad, buffed that as i went along with a small green pakshak MF towel.

Than i applied with a viper MF application pad a coat of SG and buffed with a blue magic buffing towel. (super soft!)

Than finished off with Sonus High Gloss Acrylic. and WOW. Car looks pretty vibrant, i didn't get any in the sun pics, although under a street light you can really see the metal flake, only one coat of SG was applied because of time, i hope to get another one this week on. I hear as they add up it turns out real nice. I am thinking of using a topper wax to bring out the shine and flake more too.

What do you guys think? Also what product will make flake really come alive? (metal flake)

That's a Trans Am (damn nice one too) I thought Firebird means V6, or Firebird Formula had LT1's.

Very nice T/A, what's done under the hood?

if i am right a ws6 has a ram air ls1 in it? like a ss. not sure im more of a 2jz, rb25, sr20, 4g63 etc etc kinda person, im more used to seeing the nose of firbirds im my rearveiw :)

I doubt you'll be seeing this bird in your rear view mirror, except for a split second before it thunders by. 98-02 f-bodies (i.e. camaros and firebirds) were equipped with the LS1 engine, same as the corvette. The firebird is the base model, that is v6, the formula is the non-ram air (but with option can have ram air) V8 ls1, and the WS6 is the highest end package, handling and performance and ram air induction package. I have that one hehe. Thanks for the compliments guys.

This isn't a flame but you didn't mention any "cure time" between the AOI and SG and SONUS. Pretty color - was it wet sanded and polished out?

I absolutely LOVE that car in that color. :bow

ahh, but you are forgetting the very rare firehawk package that came with 345 hp and looks like a base firebird( a real sleeper if you ask me:xyxthumbs )

what mods do you have done, i may not see you in the review but i know a couple of single turbo supras that love a ls1 ls6 challenge

Thanks for adding the firehawk in there, but i wasn't talking about special editons, if i were i could have mentioned the carlblack blackbird firebird made by GMMG or the Bird of Prey concept or the 355 Super Duty concept hehe. I know my birds, trust me, i'm an f-body fanatici.

Yes it was wetsanded and polished, i need to wet sand some areas a bit more myself, eventually to get rid of some very little orange peel in hard to reach spots. I can't wait to put another coat of SG, like i said, i hear it gets better with coats.

The cure time was non existent, which pissed me off greatly. I didn't have the time to wait. The weather was maybe 55-60 degrees with the garage door open, i applied one right after another, didn't really have any issues, i guess maybe i should put another coat of SG on than let it sit for like an hour, i'd have more time this time around, won't have to SMR.

I have more pics of the car at this car domain site:
