i have an 03' cl type s that is nighthawk black pearl, needs some work, just got it a month and a half ago. I was think ssr 2.5 then ssr 1 then wasn't sure what to use(pure polish, but which poorboy should i use??), then some type of ex maybe, that is an LSP right?? which one is good to end with the dark colored car??

thanks in advance,
JOn

that'll be a fine combo SSR2.5 > SSR1> EX x 2-3 ....you may need to do a few passes with the SSR2.5 depending on how bad the finish is:)

do u mean a few different seperate passes and different times?? Or just when I first apply it that this step will take a while?? also, the ex-sealent is the one to order correct??

UPDATE- JUST PLACED THE ORDER!!! warm weather can't wait!!!

You'll be able to see the results of Poorboys on NightHawk Black Pearl either tonight or tomorrow. Mom just got an 04 RL in the same color and I've got EX drying on the paint right now. :bigups

who long does the ex take to dry???

It does not take long, but EX can be left on the paint for a while. One time on my Legend I had to leave and I left the EX on for 7 hours and it came off fine. :bigups

The RL is done and I'll try and get pics tomorrow sometime. I hope it looks as good in the sunlight as it does in the dark. :bigups

Ok, have the ssr 2.5, ssr 1, and ex now. am going to be using them with a PC and propel pads/megs pads, which color pads should I use for each and what speeds??

Do the ssr 2.5 and 1 contain fillers??

thanks,
jon

A few tips, from my experience.......

1) Use a DRY polishing pad to apply SSR's. Don't mist the panel or pad with SSR's. No need to break out a cutting pad unless you're working a neglected surface.
2) Work SSR's at 5.5 on the PC and go sloowwww. You may need to take a few passes. -Take your time. For example, you should polish your hood in 4 sections.
3) Work the polish until there is almost none visiable, at the same time make sure you have lube (i.e. some polish) between your pad and finish. If you dry out the pad, you may cause some marring.
4) Get a spray bottle and mix it 50/50 with isopropyl alchohol and water. You can buy the alcohol at most any grocery or drug store. -Just don't drink it. When your done polishing, spray the panel with this mix and wipe clean. DON'T apply this to your polishing pad! Use this mix with any polish. If there is filler, it'll pull it from your swirl. I haven't noticed any fillers in PB polishes.
5) Back your car out in the sunlight and inspect from several angles. If you don't see slight checks/swirls/marring, then move onto the EX step. If you do see this, and it's very minor, move to SSR1 and apply the same as SSR2.5. If you missed a few spots that are a bit heavier, SSR2.5 them again.
6) Apply EX with a moist applicator. The thinner the better. Let it sit for 15 min. or so and wipe off with a clean MF towel. Repeat if you want more depth.

A few no no's....
1) Don't polish on the pad edge -keep it flat on the surface of your panel.
2) Keep the polisher moving, but at a slow pace. You'll notice a difference in the pattern the polish makes based on your pace. Hard to explain this, but you'll notice it over time. Just don't focus on one spot for a long time.

Going on memory..... I think the propel polishing pad is the blue pad. Call the place you purchased it from if your not sure.

Good luck!

I have used my PC alot, but just with meg's products like 83, 82, 80.... Just seeing what the procedures are with these prodcts since i am new to them. What type of pads should I be using with the ssr 2.5 and 1? with the propel line?? i have them all...!! ha

ok thanks for the help so far though... i know when you go slowers the swirls of polish look so much closer(maybe a better way of putting it??)

sounds like i will be really breaking the product down cause u say that it will almost be dry... this is new to me.... so when you say it make take a few passes, you mean i will have to wipe off and start a whole new pass again on the panel if it needs it assuming, and would not be able to get it in one pass

thanks

I use a polish or finish pad with SSR1, and a polish or light cut (depends on the paint condition) for SSR2.5.

After working in a pass, wipe off and inspect and take a second pass if needed.

Awesome tips MGM. I'll be doing mine soon with ssr2.5 and 1 and those should help me out a ton!

One question I have, is how long do you have to wait between adding layers of ex/ex-p? I thought you had to wait 24 hours before putting another layer on, but maybe thats just before topping with nattys? :huh

I've applied both, one after another, several times without any problem. I think a second coat adds to the look, especially if you plan to top it with Natty's.

none of them will if you clean them up in a timely manor....if you have any doubts then apply your trim product on before detailing and nothing will stick to it;) or tape it with painters tape

will the ssr 2.5 and 1 by PC and ex be able to be applied in high 30's(38) or low 40's or if this too cold???

thanx

drying time may be longer, so make sure you work the products in thoroughly

Or get a small space heater for your garage. :bigups

Year round detailing. :bigups

when you say to apply EX with a mosit applicator?? should it be moist with water or something like a meg's final inspection??

thanks.
