Hello,

Just picked up a 7424. Car is a 99 Corvette in Sebring Silver. Always used Zaino products by hands, first time getting into the buffing world. Car's finish is great, recently washed and clay-barred the entire car so it's as smooth as a you know what. Anyways, car has some minor swirls left and fine scratches that are untouchable by hand. I went over the entire car by hand with ZPC fusion and got great results expect for some very fine scratches that you can only see in correct lighting and a fine line left over from some glue where body side moldings used to be that I removed. I would like to use something that can cut a bit to remove these fine scratches and such. The ZPC on an orange pad aren't doing anything for me. After reading I was thinking about trying some Meguiars #205 next to see if this could remove my fine scratches, and if not try and dip down into the #105 although I'm unsure if that would be too much. I have a few orange pads, white, and black. I currently have all Zaino products, but am down to try whatever you guys may suggest. I tried to take some pics, but the scratches will not really show up, I am not too great with the camera... Here is my car we are working with. Give me your thoughts on what I should try out! Also, if you could compare them to the ZPC fusion I'd appreciate it so I have something to go off by.

Pics where I tried to catch the fine scratches in the light....

I would go with Menzerna SIP and finish down with 85rd. I would try the white pad first and if that doesn't cut it move up to the orange. Final polish with 85rd and a black pad. BTW nice ride.

Thanks for the advice and compliments, I appreciate it! You don't think there is a product out there I could 1 step these super fine scratches out with using the 7424?

You could try 85rd with a gray pad and step up to a white if necessary. I would still get SIP.

Okay thanks, what are your thoughts on this 2-step Menzerna versus lets say the #105 followed by #205 Meguiars?

And thanks tdekany, I appreciate it!

Superman09- Welcome to Autopia!

I never had to correct the C5 I had, so I'll leave the product suggestions to people with more experience. (Though FWIW, I find M205 pretty gentle on the harder versions of GM clear.)

Just wanted to commend you on your effective use of incandescent lighting to spot/show marring :xyxthumbs

haha, well thanks Accumulator. It's just that the paint hasn't been buffed at all in it's life I would assume, so it has some very minor imperfections that can only be seen to a trained eye in the right light, which I would like to correct.

I'm just new and there is SOOOO many different products out there and altering opinion, I just have no idea where to start. I posted the pictures to show that the paint really doesn't need much cut, so I feel maybe trying a Meguiars #105 might be too much. I don't want to use something that leaves me with a nasty surface that I will again have to polish out, and the paint is already in damn good shape, just could use some minor cutting.

Any other compound suggestions for these minor scratches that I could possibly 1 step with and follow with some ZPC fusion if my heart desires?

I'm tempted to try the menzerna stuff, but it's rather pricey coming in only 32 oz stuff, which is a lot if I'm new and just want to try something out. I wish there was like a sampler pack of products, haha

Thanks!

Well I took this information and my own research and decided to give the Wolfgang stuff a shot. I really wanted the Menzerna SIP and 106ff, but only coming in 32oz bottles and setting me back $100 wasn't my ideal first choice to "test". After research I found the Wolfgang stuff uses Menzerna formulas and is very close related, so I went with their total swirl remover 3.0 and final glaze 3.0 as well. Where as I doubt the final glaze is up to the same quality as 106ff, I figured I'd give it a shot. I will keep you posted on how the results come out once the products arrive! Thanks! Ordered from Autogeek!

i would use a LC orange pad and some M105 and got to work on the vette......then top it off with some M205 on LC black pad.....then a nice coat of sealant applied by hand.....hope these steps help u out

Superman09- Well, see how that works out for you. It oughta at least make things *better*. Sometimes you hit upon the right combo first time, maybe it'll go that way for you.

I wish it did, but no luck.

I tried the Wolfgang products. The swirl remover on an Orange pad really did nothing for me. I then tested the Final Glaze and did notice a gloss enhance, which actually makes things worse as it "pops" the imperfections more, haha. I'd like to try some M105 next I think and back it up with M205.... trying to find some small amounts of it to sample.... anyone know where I could get this or have any other suggestions? :nixweiss

Some vendor sells 12 oz. samples of M105/M205, at least IIRC, but I *cannot* recall who it is

Meguiar's now sells a paste-style compound and polish that might do the job, but I have zero experience with them.

Heh heh, I guess it's easy for me to spend your money, but I'm tempted to argue that when you have a 'vette you shouldn't stress over buying a few bottles of polish ;)

And whatever you attempt, I'd use 4" pads; IME they're the only way to do timely correction on hard clear with a PC.

I don't mind trying out new stuff at all, just do not want to go out and purchase a bunch of products in 32 oz sizes just to test if you know what I mean. I think my next try will be some M105 and M205 and see how the M105 works with the orange pad! Thanks!

Superman09- Duly noted. It *is* in mighty nice shape already :D

And yeah, I sure do understand about not wanting a shelf full of also-rans! But I'm pretty confident that either M105 or something from Menzerna will work fine. Only thing is that you'll have a lot more than you need, so if you can find the sample sizes that'd be great.

M105 will get the swirls out .

If you want to go with menz , go with power gloss .

Follow these two up with finer polishes.

Autodetailingsolutions.com sells the M105 and M205 in 12oz samples. It will take some playing with but do your research on the KBM method and you will have excellent results. This site will give you every bit of info you wil ever need on how to use this method to your benefit.

There are also a lot of us with much experience using these products and can help you with the correct steps to take. Once the car is buffed properly lay down the Zaino Z2 and you will be blown away.
