I did this '65 Chevelle SS today, paint correction, engine detail.

A real SS car, numbers matching 327/350hp L-79, Factory Air, 4-speed, tilt wheel, heavily optioned. Worth some JACK!!! Body is in perfect condition... 47,000 miles documented.

Roman Red with White/Black interior. To my surprize this was SINGLE-STAGE ENAMEL! I couldn't believe how well it shined up!
An absolutely beautiful car!

Moderate swirls and micromarring. The engine compartment was pretty clean, just needed a wipedown and some dressing on the hoses.

Process:

Another immaculate car under cover... no need to wash.
Claybar: Zaino Clay
Compound: PCXP, M105, LC Orange KBM
Polish: PCXP, M205, LC White KBM
Sealant: Zaino Z5P, PCXP, LC Black
LSP: Zaino Z8 wipedown
Engine: Wipedown with light mist of Purple Power/water mix
Dressed engine with Stoner Trim Shine on Rubber/Plastic
Interior: not required

Before, showing moderate swirls and micro-marrs under Xenon Light:

Showing a clean pad next to the pad after a few passes with M105... definitely single stage paint!!!

Reminds me of my 64 Malibu SS I had when I was 9. Same color exterior but it had red interior.350 4bolt main. I wish I still had that car.

SWEET car Bill! I love it when you show off cars like this. It is a great color with a good stance. Most of the muscle up here has the grasshopper (ass end way up in the air) stance. Great work! It must be a blast to work on something so beautiful!

I'd be willing to bet that every detailer on this site remembers one car that they wish they still had!!!

For me it would be the '82 Monte Carlo SS... sold it too cheap. :cursing: Black with red guts and red body stripe. It was such a nice car!!!! (I knew I had made a mistake as soon as I watched the guy drive it down the street)

He also has this nice clsssic ski boat in his garage. Not sure of the year or brand, but if he's got it, you can bet it's a good one!:hurray:

Bill that is a classic for sure and you did a great job on it.

On that SS paint, try some M205 with the orange pad first, you will be very suprised on what kind of correction that will get you.

Another beautiful job, Bill !!

I loved those old Chevelles too ! Never had one until 1969,Metallic Blue with Black interior, 4 speed, etc., and then got a new 1969 Camaro RS/SS Pace Car with the hard top, and black and white houndstooth interior.
These older ones are definitely classic and that is easily a most beautiful paint correction and polish job!!
You and that PC7424XP are a force to be reckoned with !! :)

Thanks for sharing !

Sick !!!

Bill
You know your just SICK. Detailing more beautiful old muscle cars then most of us see at the local car shows. You must be proud to know that many of us are ruining or laptop or PC's by drooling into the keyboards :drool5:. These post bring back a lot of memories to many of us and you might be the cause of some going out and buying a muscle car or two. Well just keep up the great post and we will try and suffer thru these post. LOL

Haha... Thanks Paul! I always wanted a classic muscle car, but I always seemed to have other priorities in life. Having four boys was definitely a priority!!! No old cars during that time! (Well, they were old, but not classics!!!)

I waited almost 40 years to get into classic cars and now I'm lovin' it!

Bill: How do you polish around fender, etc badges? I really don't want to remove them.
Thanks.

For the badges I usually take them off, because on older cars like the Chevelle, they come off very easily with just 2 or 3 nuts.

If I can't get to them I just tape them off with Sherwin Williams painters tape. I can get pretty close with that method. For small curved areas, I use a smaller backing plate and pads.
