Do explain? Is it because of the patriotism, do you believe American products are far superior, or possibly because it is to help your fellow citizen?

Some of us are sick and tired of greedy CEO's of American companies (not saying Tunch is) who live in their multi-million dollar mansions while they lay off American workers, just so they can get even richer. And yes, products not made in China are often superior quality to those that are made in China.

Meh, that is a lame progressive "us vs them" argument that is so incredibly stale. Do you know what the cost difference is to produce something in the U.S. vs. China? That polisher would literally cost double. DOUBLE. In an already competitive environment full of companies that already produce in China or other foreign countries. Do you think people would buy the 3D polisher in bulk, no matter the quality, if it cost as much as a Flex? Maybe, but why risk ruining your market (primarily professionals that do this for a living) just so that you can brand it "Made in the U.S.A"?



If you want to fix something, try taking the U.S. Corporate income tax and lowing it from 34%, which is the highest in the world, to something that makes large companies WANT, or even NEED to produce in the U.S.



Would I like more products to be made in country? Of course! But the reason so many products are produced outside the U.S. is a very complex economic and political one, and dumbing it down to "rich greedy CEO's" is just plain ignorant of the fact, not to mention factually incorrect.
 
The next few years will be very interesting--the "advantage" to producing products in China is rapidly closing and it is estimated that by 2015 there will be no economic advantage to produce goods in China vs in the US. Many companies have already brought production back to the US after moving it to China years ago--even GE is building some appliances in the US again.

As much as many would like to see it, I doubt there will be any significant shift back for this kind of manufacturing. Manufacturers have always chased the lowest cost (first Japan, then Taiwan, now China, Malaysia). There are several underdeveloped countries like Vietnam wanting to be exploited. There would have to be some other economic event to offset the labor costs and the flexibility Chinese companies offer.



For products like this, I do think people would pay more but the debate would be how much. If I recall the DB's UDM 1.0 was assembled in the US from imported components.
 
Something to consider whether it has a bearing or not on your opinion: 3D is very large in China and all their chemicals are imported from 3D in California so this aspect is helping our economy. But, as far as China is concerned, 3D China is on track to have 100 car wash & detail shops open by year end there. Please don't think that 3D only had this polisher produced there just because it was the cheapest option.



This machine is a nice unit & I suggest anyone to strongly consider it if they are in the market for a new polisher. Way too much negativity has been perpetuated by a few people who haven't even used one. I've been using mine for the last couple weeks and am quite pleased with its performance. I've also not had any issues with "overheating", but all machines tend to get pretty hot during a long buffing session. I know my PC XP will almost burn my hand, but the top cover has been removed. Also consider we are in the middle of a hot summer so machines may tend to run hotter then in colder temps.

I wish I could make it tomorrow night, but I won't likely be available, at least not early on. I'd intended to get a video posted this week about the new machine, but time just hasn't been on my side to get it done. It will be Saturday before I can have it done.



Will be interesting to hear what comes of the discussion if there is one -- I'll try to pop in at some point.
 
I was about to pull the trigger on the DA today and it was off the website, going down to the local 3D store on Monday and hopefully picking one up. I know there were some issues with some of them, but I want to try it for myself. Is there a reason it was taken off the site?
 
Hey guys, any ideas how much this unit sold for when it was available? Cannot get any information in terms of pricing.
 
I guess I'm glad I got mine while they were available. I have run the machine long and hard on several correction projects now and it is my favorite DA so far. The only problem I have with it is keeping it at speed 4 to 4.5. The machine is so powerful and fast that it's easy to melt down backing plate velcro with it on speed 5 or 6. I hope they do another production run of them because I want another one or two of them.



I think I paid $145 for mine in kit form. I assume that was a wholesale price because that seems pretty inexpensive for what I got.

Dang gone Scott just giving stuff away! Im gonna lay the smack down on his candy asss when he gets in. lol Dave that is our wholesale price. We understand your in the business to make money. So we really try and help our professional detailers and dealerships with a pricing structure to meet there needs. We feel its just the right thing to do.

Where are you Tuan? I'm in Vancouver and if Thomas would be so gracious as to set one aside for me as well, I can go across the line and pick them up. Save us a ton in shipping and brokerage fees.
