Had it since new and now at 33,xxx miles...driving down the road, no warning...something just goes wrong.

The car was in a rear-end accident about a year ago, but the insurance reccomended body shop said it was only cosmetic.

Anyways, driving home today from the diner behind my mom. She had to pull over because the car was fishtailing. I caught up and almost lost it. I could not believe how ugly this damage was. We were less than a mile from home, so we decided to do about 30mph and go for the finish. The tire squealed all the way home and this is how it sits until the AM when Caddy comes with a flatbed.

It looks like this on both sides, just worse on the passenger side.

I thought the first pics was of the front of the car. So I was thinking what is the big deal. Then I noticed the second picture. Scary thing about independent rear ends, there is always the possibility of that. Glad to hear Mom is ok! :D Tell them when they get it back, they want it with the V on the side. (CTS-V)

My first guess!

I'll keep everyone posted. Yeh, either way the Caddy Warranty or the Body Shop Warranty will cover it...So awkward looking though :p

I'll wager it is the half shafts on your independent rear differential that collapsed. Good thing it happened just in time b4 your warranty.

Good luck in the fix, and keep an eye on it, because this also could be a sign that you all may need to unload it. Hoping for the best all the same.

On both sides at the same time? Broken/disconnected stabilizer/anti-roll bar won't do that either. That's a weird one.

I didn't read that.

not sure what type of suspension it has back there.

Well, whatever type, it's IRS, so a broken whatever on one side shouldn't make both sides squat. So, it's a weird one...unless one side broke first and the extra load broke the other one.

I wasn't picking on you, BTW, the pictures were only of one side.

I thought Quad-Steering was only available on GMC and Chevy Pickups.:nixweiss

Just kidding glad your moms safe

Yikes! Glad nobody was hurt. Please keep us posted...I've seen a quite a bit of suspension damage, but nothing like that (on both sides).

Damn i was wondering where the caddy has been wen i drive by! lol Sorrry to hear good thing mom is ok that could have been ugly!

I guess they were talking about the axle or tie rod when they said "Breakthrough". :D

Glad everyone is all right. Warranty should cover it.

Firstly, I am glad everyone is okay.

Does the CTS have rear drive? I thought they were only front wheel drive!

Here in Australia the local GM product, Holden, has a cheap & low quality rear suspension that has a habit of cracking the IRS subframe with similar results to what I see in the pictures.

Good luck with the warranty claim and I hope that the Caddy dealer doesn't point the figure at the body repairer & vice versa.

Oh oh!!! We have your holden coupe here with the GTO!! Sometimes I wonder with GM. It has potential of being a great platform, but if in fact what you're saying is true, then we are going to have quite a few disgruntled GTO owners in a couple of years.

If GM doesn't get their act together, I will either buy a Hemi, or bavarian. I am tired of the excuses, boring material and subpar quality.

Wow, talk about off the topic. Must be upset bc I found out some more bad news about the upcoming Impala SS!!
