300,000 Miles, and Showroom Clean...

Dear God that's a big bill for a timing belt and water pump! Car looks amazing though.

Absolutely...

The Acura does look good especially for the age. Although, I do dare him to go 10,000 miles with out an oil change though. :P It really does looks like obsessive/compulsive oil change intervals. The most I have ever spent for an oil change is $20 and an hour of my time. If I am calculating this correctly, you have spent about $3,000 in oil changes. You must make a good salary to afford those prices.

P.S. Hope you enjoyed your trip through Pennsylvania. The State of Rust Welcomes You! Hopefully you are quick to wash the salt away like I am.

Over 20k spent on mantenience and repairs? I think with that kind of money you could keep any vehicle running for 300k miles.

On a cost-per-mile basis, keeping this car on the road doesn't hurt my pocketbook any more than getting a new car every few years would. Plus this car's still got more style and class than a lot of what's on today's showrooms IMO. Very few of my maintenance items have been non-routine. I'd love to see other examples of people who have achieved this kind of longevity, but it's just not that common.

^^^ that and why the oil changes back to back every 4 days?

Last I checked, oil changes are due based on mileage OR time. 3,000 miles is 3,000 miles whether you put it on in 3 days or 3 months. :)

My next oil change is due in 10,000 miles/1 year and my last cost me $20 with thirty minutes of my time included.

If you know, what kind of oil are they using for your changes? Regular old oil, hydrocracked/GROUP 3 hydroprocessed, or full synthetic? If they are using regular old oil I would completely understand the need for such a short interval.

Also, what oil filter do they use?

Yeah, and some of us think it's just plain cool to keep a vehicle for a long, long time :D

Yeah, unfortunately it seems that most cars eventually have some problem that the owner doesn't want to deal with properly and it's downhill from there.

I agree, they really are nice looking cars. You need to put some more miles on the sedan, its barely broken in!

I'm curious, what is your driving style? Are you a "spirited" driver or really easy on the car?

Much respect to your for maintaining this car at this level and for that many miles. Keep on changing the oil and regularly maintaining the parts; You have been rewarded for your efforts. So many 75-100,000 mile cars are nowhere near in this condition.

My aim is to have my cars maintained at this level of care!! Well done!

Glad this topic popped up...

I run my 95 Chevy Monte Carlo on Castrol Syntec 5w-30, and change the oil every 5K Miles.

This was the view from the drive seat last night -->

While my Mustang has nowhere near the miles your Acura does, I am working on it. I currently have 122,000 miles on it.

I do ALL my own maintenance though, she has NEVER been to any kind of shop for anything other than new tires and alignments.

For oil I generally use Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5W-30 and either a Mobil 1 Extended Performance filter or a Motorcraft filter. My intervals go anywhere from 5,000 to 7,500. I can't find my latest analysis right now but even at 7,500 the TBN on Mobil 1 is always between 1.0 and 2.0 even at 7,500 mile intervals.

The only repairs I have had to make other than normal wear items are a new alternator early on and a new idle air control valve. I did both of those.
