Did any of our member's get a hold of one these yet? Wife wants one and I'm not sure yet. (price)

Had one pass me on the freeway last winter - sweet! (We often get "test" or pre-production vehicles out here - I usually see two or three per year.)

Then I saw a review in our local paper a couple weeks ago - well equipped was over $38,000 -!!!!!!!!! That's nuts.

GEWB

We go to car shows every weekend... I'm starting to see a few there.

My favorite was the Burgundy Metallic SS with black stripes/black guts. Very sweet ride!

Is she buying this for speed or just wants a sports car(automatic) for looks? I'm not a huge fan of the Camaro...if you wait you'll see the price of the car drop drastically in 6 months. the only new Camaro I like which is not out yet is the Z28.

A little Camaro history, IRCC...

Originally the Z/28 was the road race version and featured a SMALL 302 cubic inch V-8 (grossly underrated at 290hp). The SS could be had with a small block or a big block.

After the SS was dropped (72?) the Z/28 because the performance package until 2004 or whenever they stopped making the car. When the SS was re-introduced in '96, it was a higher performance varient of the Z/28.

Now it seems that Chevy is doing the opposite, with the SS being the base performance model and the Z/28 being the more powerful mode? Kind of a backwards step if you ask me...

Also, I was excited for the new Camaro, but after seeing a few in person, I think it is oversized and the interior looks cheesy. Oh well :(

Correct in every detail Todd. The original 302 "DZ" motor should have been rated at a much higher HP rating (more like 390). That car was a beast! An all original, correct, numbers matching '69 Z28 in todays world will go for well over $70k.

You are also correct about the size of the new Camaro. When I saw one for the first time, I couldn't believe how BIG it was! I'll bet that car weighs close to 4000 lbs! I do like the shape of the car and the engine options, but I'd like to have seen GM trim it down quite a bit.:D

(That wouldn't keep me from buying one though! I'd have to stumble onto 40 grand first!!!);)

I think the size of the vehicle is very deceiving compared to the curb weight. I just looked up three cars for comparison, the Challenger SRT8, Camaro SS and Mustang Shelby GT500...looking at the cars you would think the Mustang is much smaller and would have a might lighter curb weight...not so much
Curb Weights:
Challenger - 4140 lbs
Camaro - 3857
Mustang - 3920

Dont judge the weight of a car by it's size. I think the Camaro is a contender...as long as GM can support it's production!

I would buy one in a second over the other two that I listed!

I definitely think the Camaro is a contender. All the car magazines just love it in terms of performance, style and bang for the buck. I haven't read a negative review yet.

I was just a little surprized by the size. I'd like to see one side by side with a '69 for a comparison.

After seeing one in person and getting in one, it seems bigger then the 69 model yr. But I'm waiting for it to cool down so maybe there be some on a lot to test drive first before going broke....:D

Here is what I found for size comparison Luster...they arent too far off

1969 - 186" length and 74" width.

2010 - 190.4" length and 75.5" width

There are some opportunistic sheisters out there who are speculating that this will be the first and LAST year of the new Camaro.

Consequently, they are buying up all they can and listing them on eBay for $10,000 over sticker.

Have you ever heard this one before? "There's a sucker born every minute.":out:

I had a 1972 Z-28, last year of the LT-1 motor (350) and besides the first year (602) 1972 was the lowest product run with only 2750 made. Sure wish I had kept that car!

The new one - eh, too pricey and I'm not sure how Guv-Ment Motors will do.

You could buy a REALLY NICE '68-'72 Z/28 for the price of a new one. Lots of advantages to doing that:

1. Historic tags... one time deal, no motor vehicle inspections ever.

2. Personal Property tax (MO) would be about $15 per year. New Camaro - $900-$1000 per year.:out:

3. Classic Camaro = Appreciation, New Camaro = Depreciation.

4. With the old one, you've got a classic that most people will "wow"!:notworthy:

Buy the old one.:cornut:
