2005 Porsche Carrera GT - Paint to Sample Gulf Blue

I don't know what I enjoyed more, looking at that beautiful car/work or reading the write-up. Awesome job on both fronts.

No I am very familiar, I was being somewhat sarcastic when I say I would use that amount the entire car. Point is, you need to focus on how much product to use, it's tough to make the tansition to using the proper amount, but with gmblack3a's help and description, I think that will help out a lot.

It's funny you brought up the Zaino, I forgot all about that, so yeah you definitely have a tendency of using way too much product.

^^ I don't think the OP would be detailing 500k cars if he did not know how to use some of the products he does.

End result was great anyways; I sure wouldn't mind just seeing a Porsche like this in person; haha.

When did making cars look vivid become a bad thing, I have seen a lot of cars at shows that look better in person than I saw on the internet.

If to compensate for poor exposure, no problem. Personally though, I post them how they come out of my camera, just no way to accurately adjust the shots without the car and exact lighting in front of me as I do it.

Those who adjust the colors of their shots here at least do before and afters under halogens or sun-since paint correction is more important IMO than whether or not the color has been somewhat manipulated. Take Todd for example. Sometimes the colors look a little too saturated but it is obvious from the before and afters the paint is properly corrected. That is a lot more honest than taking before shots with halogens and afters in the shade.

FWIW I will sometimes adjust the brightness or sharpness of the compasistion but I very rarely will adjust the saturation or contrast. Nikon's take very vivid, color rich photo's.

Doesn't matter all that much to me anyway, I usually like seeing the before and after shots and the methods you used more than the finished product. ;)

What does working on a 500k car have to do with knowhow? Have you ever been to a car show? Ever seen scrubs tend to a fine auto and scratch the sh*t out of it?

Not to mention Ultrafina is largely considered one of the most carcinigenic polishes available so I have heard, as well as a nice warning on the bottle, so using way too much doesn't seem like it would pan out well for any party involved.

Suggestive comments are more preferable than telling him what he should or shouldn't do. :hmph:

There really is no black and white with using polishes.

Amazing depth and wetness for such a light color. Outstanding write-up and pictures too.

Thanks again Scott.

Hey David, excellent work as always.

One Q, what color is the Ultrafina? It looks white, mine is blue? Is there a newer/older version

Thanks for the info Bryan. I usually use about 1/2 that much in each section I work. On a door for example, I'll lay down about 4 lines and break that panel into 1/4's. A hood will make for about 6-8 sections. If you watch the 3M video, their tech guy puts down a little more than I did. They also mention: "You may notice an oily splatter on the surrounding areas of the car as you polish. This tells you that you are using the right amount of product to get the job done right".

Aren't you getting ANY oilly splatter when you use UF?

David, If I remember right from the video they also mention that you should always have a "film" of polish on the surface the entire time you are using it. At times I still get some splatter, but since I have reduced the amount I am using, it is very minimal and I still have the "film" of UF on the surface.

Incredible work as always David...amazing car and the attention to detail is flawless!

I'll try to get a hold of my friend with the Black vette, (I'm sure if I show him this thread he'll be down your throat for a detail!)

Thanks. You're right. It came out really white looking in the picture. Maybe the flash and the deeper blue of the car had something to do with it appearing that way? It's much darker looking than the picture makes it look.

Correct. I guess using a little more will help it stay wetter/longer. I get zero sling when I buff, I just get the oil spots on some panels. Did you notice how much product the tech uses in their video?

that color is awesome, goes really well with yellow calipers. great detail.

I agree. The calipers are huge. Much nicer than their "Big Red Brakes."

I really should look at Click & Brag more often! Great job David, yes, I took notes on your technique and will have to get some of those AM products - especially since Brandon1 found a distributor at the beach. I just got some 1Z glans wax and can't wait to get it on my car.

Oh yeah - ain't karma grand - you know what I mean...
