2005 Porsche Carrera GT - Paint to Sample Gulf Blue

GREAT WORK ON AN AMAZING PEICE OF MACHINERY! My father owned a 356 speedster that was modeled after the gulf race car. Ours was the exact same color scheme. The car was owned and sold to my father by miles colier. That is why i thought this might be his car.

I would LOVE to work on a car like that one day. This is why i am planning on moving down to florida after High school. To work on cars like this... and also for the warm climate.

,Daniel

AGAIN AMAZING JOB!

wow that is insane. dare i say i'd like to see that 70s porsche orange on there with the blue too? stripes or something.. that'd look sweet.

Most Florida colleges are easier than those up north. Girls are cuter too. Look at FAU, Lynn, UCF and UM. I moved down and it was the best life choice I've made, bar none.

Amazing job! I was staining my Dad's porch this past summer and heard what I thought was an Italian sports bike coming down the mountain, but it was a GT tearing a$$ down the mtn. I heard that car a good 1/4 mile away!

Incredible work David!

I don't particularly care for the color, but you sure made it look sweet.

Top notch work and great write-up!

David- great work and great writeup. That really had to be an awesome experience, working in a pristine hangar, with that car, in such a rare and beautiful. The results are just phenomenal.

Stunning.

Nice Dave!

Hopefully it won't sell so you can help me with maintaining it (and the others) when you come back down. Either way, we'll have plenty of work.

Thanks, pictures don't do it justice!

Holy Moley!:wow::wow::shocked

That car, that color and your detail of it are just INCREDIBLE! I'm about $574K short of the asking price:chuckle:

Me too.

Dave,

That's one hell of a job you did on the GT!!!:2thumbs: Great details on the detail with so many pics and steps! Wonderful job writing that up!!

Oh yea, the GT is nice too!:p Not too may Porsche cars have gone back to Gulf Blue paint to sample.

Can't imagine what you'd do with the car on the lift.

Just be very careful on the PCCB rotors, they can be damaged if hit the wrong way and you sure do not want to spring for one of those! If you remove wheels for a wheel-off cleaning, be sure the owner has two wheel hangers to attach to the rotor hat before mounting the wheels back on. Otherwise you could very well damage the rotor.

Lots of carbon fiber on this car and it's a good thing it was in great shape. I did one that took some real work to try to get the carbon fiber back to a glossy level. Not easy and thankfully it was only in the foot wells and no where else.

Once again, GREAT JOB!!!

Deanski

Thanks man. This would be the absolute best candidate to detail on a hoist. Thanks for the tip. I made sure not to spray any cleaner on the rotors, just in case. Isn't this the perfect color for this car? It's strange how much carbon fiber mesh can be seen through/under some painted panels.

That looks awesome. Great work on a very cool car. I have done a couple Carrera GT's (silver and red, nothing as cool as this one) and found the paint pretty aggreable to work with and that it finishes out perfectly with ultra fina.

Nice job.

What did you think about the stupid clutch in the car? You could pull out your hair just trying to move the car over a speed bump... If you rev it above 1800, it cuts the power out (to save the 10k clutch), so you have ease the cluth to the point of the pressure plate, at which point the engine automatically revs and you pull away like a granny.

That and the funky placement of the shifter is kind of wierd. Luckily I was able to put a couple miles on the silver one, and once under way the car is awesome, and what an amazing sound!!!

Thanks Todd. The clutch is totally crazy. I used to have drag car 911 that had a 930 trans with a full race metallic 4 puck clutch system that I thought was super critical. This one makes it look primative.

Nice work Dave. How was the paint to work with in general? I found them pretty agreeable too. Just wondering if the one off was any different. It certainly is a looker, and you're dedication to detail really shows it off.

Thanks. This paint was awsome! Not too hard, not too soft. Very workable and predictable. I wouldn't think twice about using a wool pad & compound on it if I had to.

The car looks great! Well done on really taking of the customer and the car. I was just as surprised as you to see all the swirl marks and halograms. Must have been a little nerve recking working with the only car with that color. But very well done.

Thanks. I was surprised too. Spending a few extra minutes taping things up made a world of difference.

Hey, those roof panels come off? And what was that little door you opened in one of the last pics, of the driver's door?

Thanks for sharing, great car, cool hangar, quite the experience!

Thanks Setec. The owner requested that I leave them on actually. They looked like they removed really easy too. He mentioned that each one weighs less than 1 pound!

Those are actually tiny storage compartments.

I LOVE the detail! But I dont know if I can say the same about the color?? Hopefully i can pull some nice cars like you some day!

Thanks. Just center yourself around the right people and everything will fall into place eventually.

I have a dumb question, why did you use such a small backing plate with the blue pad?

Here's one of the reasons:

It makes for a super soft feel when polishing. Especially with Ultrafina.

Fanstastic job! As always you covered every inch. The customer has to be very pleased.

Thanks. He was more than pleased.

What an honor to work on such an absolute stunner. The detail work and most of all, the paint are worked to perfection!

Why is the owner selling such a unique vehicle after so few miles?

Thanks you. The practicallity of this car is pretty much nil. He's moving on to somthing much greater, with much more use. Keep in mind that this car isn't even past the "break in" period yet. I couldn't imagine how frustrating it would be owning such a powerful car, having your own private runway strip right in front of you & not even get the chance to run the heck out of it!

I read about this car in another forum today, not the detail just the car.

That is one amazing looking car. Don't know if I like the interior color with the ext. but I LOVE the exterior color. Gorgeous.

Your work was phenomenal. Just amazing, nice job

Thanks. Can you forward me the link to the website?

Me neither. I asked the owner if he's sad to see it go and he said not really. He looking forward to the next few toys on the list.
