2005 Mustang Help

well, what should I do to get it fixed? I hate looking at my car and it look like I don't take care of my car at all. I (sadly) have run it through its fair share of car washes as I worked at one, and working 50+ hours a week leaves my cars paint at the bottom of the list, other than removing the dirt and crap. I had one bath done when I got the car because of some small places that I didn't like, and it helped, but nothing like this. I will get pictures tomorrow if possible, in some "fake" lighting. I know wetsanding is big money at a body shop, because of what is done, and I know as of now I cannot afford it, but hate to see such a nice car, have a paint job that doesnt show the beauty of the car.

I charged anywhere between $200-$500 to sand out the damage.

The wash just stops it from getting worse by neutralizing the acid rain from bitting into the finish further. It's a stop the problem type of operation, not a repair. If it's etched the clear, it needs sanding (light). I used 4000 grit paper on alot of the repairs and the finish comes out beautiful. Post some good pictures.

here is a crappy pic. i will try to get another tomorrow when it is sunny. most of those spots are NOT water spots from the rain today.

this is the best picture I can get. ALL those little spots DO NOT come off. even with clay....I will try that again tomorrow, but I need to find someone I guess who can try to wet sand just the hood first to see if it will work...
 
yes, there are some spots on it, i havent washed it this week, but I can tomorrow and show pictures of it "clean"
 
That's really bad. I would try a small area of the hood with some clay, light compound and some polish to see what it looks like after. The spotting almost resembles hard water spots. I've seen some really bad acid rain damage, but that's really looks a little too intense. Could be? It's looks more like fallout or an explosion from industrial smoke stacks. Try a section and let us know. I wish I could try a few things on it. Are you in Florida?

Im in far south mississippi. I would be willing to bring my car to the pan handle (fort worth area) if it meant a GOOD detail, but thats if I were taking a weekend vacation with the family or something. not sure where you stay in florida.
 
i only have that maguires clay or whatever, its yellow with some detailer. I will try the hood again tomorrow while it is sunny out just to be able to tell something. I will tape off a 1x1 square on the hood.
 
Sounds good. Clay the heck out of it and rub it under your arm falls off!!! Try to take pics under floresents to bring out some depth.
 
I did a little work, and it seems to be working! I don't know why it didn't last time, but it looks to be now! This is gunna take a while!



Where can I get the "rough" clay you guys talk about? I believe its the gray bar? I believe my next hurdle is swirls....but I think a detail can get that done!

I think with a good detail, it may be salvageable. :)
 
also, what towels are best for DRYING the car? And is there a "proper" way to do so? Im going to wash the car after I buy my school books, and I want to do a "proper wash" not just a quick rinse. Does wal-mart have the wool mits you guys use?
 
The towels I use for drying are Waffle Weaves from Autogeek or PakShak. After washing the vehicle I let the water flow free and this allows the water to sheet off the car and then I just go around the car blotting whatever water is left.



When you say "Not just a quick rinse" do you sometimes just spray water on your car and dry it off? If so this is probably what is creating the swirls as with a proper wash the dirt and grime is lifted off the finish rather then being pushed around. And yes Wal-Mart does have those mitts, just look for the plushest one you can find.
 
When i say a quick rinse, i mean with car wash soap and all. But I want to start taking real good care of my paint......hopefully it is not too late.
 
which clay bar/clay lube from the autopia store should i purchase? I think I am going to buy the sonus der wunder wash kit, a clay bar setup, and a good hand wax to see if it will get my car to (atleast) where I want it. Should I do this, or should I just pay for a detail? I really don't think anyone around here does a GOOD job.
