1991 Acura NSX Clean Up

There's a few guys on here that should educate themselves on the NSX. A base model NSX has trouble running with a BASE model C5, let alone a C5 Z06, C6, or C6 Z06 (the last one is a laughable comparison at best.)

It's no different with the S2000. That car is constantly compared to others far out of its league. Through most race tracks and road course events, it cannot beat the lap times of simpler and cheaper cars like LS1 F-bodies, let alone cars on another level like base model 911s and Corvettes.

It can be said all day that one is "paying for the technology", but what good does that do you when the final package is a mediocre performing machine that outprices the competition? The main plus is that it's a very streetable car with a great chassis, but the same can be said of the Corvette (which is loaded with more luxury options,) and the 'Vette costs less than half of what the NSX does. If you talk about the new C6 Z06, which is also full of insane technology, it still only prices at $75k (much less than a brand new NSX in its last year, let alone a Type R,) and you receive much more for that money (twice as much power, to start.)

And no, the NSX Type R is not going to be taking out worldbeaters on a standard road course.

That being said, the one detailed before this topic went off course looks fantastic. Good job on it...sure it was a pleasure to work on a machine like that.

I'd just say that it seems to have held its own against cars that are MUCH more powerful.:)

And I'd just say that if you center your entire argument and knowledge on ONE video with no background information on it, you really should do some more research.

That's not an insult, mind you. I just find it annoying when people make excuses for the NSX. It's like the Corvette fanboys that'll argue until they're blue in the face defending the ZR-1...yes, it was powerful and technologically advanced, but that was about it. Insanely overpriced in comparison to the overall performance, same as the NSX.

If we can agree on one thing, it is overpriced.

I have seen other video with the NSX taking out more powerful cars, I have also seen it at local track days. I have driven a few NSXs having worked for an Acura deal and maybe I am biased but I was impressed. If you look at used NSX prices they are very reasonable, but I would never pay new sticker.

None of this really matters though, Honda is comming out with a supercar to replace the current NSX ending this year. I am looking forward to that.

Well, that's not the *only* video but it's the only one that I can find at the moment. There are many that are published? by Best Car and again the NSX holds it's own in all of them against cars that are "faster." It's just a car that was way ahead of it's time and yes, I agree, that time has past but it's coming back and Honda doesn't like second.:)

This is all true, if you read some of hondas press releases where the Japenese president talks about hondas next entry into the supercar feild they talk of V10 power. Isn't it supprising that F1 cars use V10s and Honda happens to have bought a team?

The NSX replacement is promised to be as "ahead of its time" as the NSX was when it came out

I think everyone can agree that Honda builds a nice car. Nice is a relative term, I know, but resale on a Honda is fantastic, and they're just put together well. In fact, I'm looking to buy a cheap Honda to drive in the elements. But the basis of this argument at hand is that there is an inkling of a possibility that the NSX is as fast as a Corvette in a straight line, and I'm sorry, it's just not. A "base" C5 will pretty handily out-accelerate any NSX, a C5 Z06 will flat out run away from one, and a C6 Z06 is no comparison, whatsoever.

The NSX has it's place... on a roadcourse, maybe... or looking good in some rich person's garage, but they don't really even belong on the dragstrip, so why even argue the issue to try to defend the car? It's over-priced and underpowered, but it was a 'cool' car.

Catch up? A well-driven Z06 will never be behind a NSX. Not on a drag strip, not on a road course, nowhere.

BlackSunshine: Nobody was referring strictly to drag racing. That's a moot point, looking at the power/weight ratio alone tells which car accelerates harder. However, referencing tracking abilities, the Corvette is also now the superior car.

The ZR-1, if you want to be technical. It was around during the NSX's introduction, but as I stated earlier, I'm not a fan of that model either.

Most would consider mid-late '96 when the C5 debuted.

Go back to NSX introduction not today. Sorry for not being clear but the Corvette didn't catch up til what, the C5?

In 95 the NSX was $82k and the ZR-1 was about $65k. Which of the 2 cars held the 24 hour speed record on a closed track for 10 years? For one second of its life the NSX could not do the speed that the ZR-1 did for 24 hours. :dance

Like it was said before it's not a drag race and top speed bragging rights are well, like drag racing. Put the two cars on the track and we get to see what the whole package is about.

Seems like the NSX is the Zaino of the bunch. It lasts and lasts and it seems like a bunch of people have a problem with that.

Geez, this has turned into a Hummer, Zaino or NXT debate.

Nice detail, beautiful car. :)

Thanks Scott.

I didn't mean to start a holy war with NSX vs. Vette. The owner is simply trying to improve on his 15+ year old car in a few areas. Really nothing more than that.

Been there done that. 01 Z06-3 NSX-0

Put the NSX on the same track for 24 hours. The track was not a straight line, The ZR-1 did have to turn.

So what happens if I like the vette and the zaino.

Excellent job on the detail! :up

Dude, this goes right back to what I said about researching and educating yourself on the two cars instead of just making assumptions.

I'm not trying to bust your stones, you're just wrong.
