02 Camaro SS detail... lots of pics

Adam's Polishes

New member
Got a chance to take on the daily driver of the guy who owns the black flamed Silverado SS I've poste before... as it is a daily I was expecting some serious dirt and grime... I wasn't disappointed. The owner is a friend of mine and he stuck around to witness all the carnage first hand... the stream of black running out of my garage and into the street as I took on the wheels/tires/fenders... the "***" Moment when he realized his seats were tan, not brown... but all worth it in the end.

Lets start with some before shots:

After a pass with the DER Tuff Stuff on the white pad

After (on the left) a pass with Adams S&HR + Revive Polish mixture on green durafoam pad next to unpolished surface. Not perfect.... yet.

After a little more time working the polish. DER Shiney Stuff really is my favorite on flake paint jobs... look at that flake pop!!

Now on to the interior... side by side... before and after... I really don't need to say much here

Now the fun part... its done... shiney and looking good. Got to go for a spin and take some pics, I love Camaro's and this car reminds me of why I want another one. We had a blast smokin' some guy in a WRX STI... wasn't even close.

The proud owner of this blue beauty taking pics also:

MORE PICS COMING

Wheels came out really nice... theres a little damage here and there on them, but for a relatively abused car thats 5 years old I was impressed they came back so well.

Hes a bit north of 320 after getting it on the dyno and tuning it, but yeah... those cars are GROSSLY underrated from the factory.

Indeed........if you are putting it to an STI, then he is tuned very well. Most don't realize what a good tune will do for that engine.

BTW....nice work on cleaning her up!!!

from what I understand (maybe an fbody guy can chime in here and clarify) the 02 SS was the one where they started putting LT6 parts into the LS1 and the HP jumped, but GM never bothered to update the HP rating... it was just kind of a surprise.

Excellent work! :up

The interior was pretty filthy and I know the paint is rock hard. Not an easy detail but it turned out great.

Pretty sweet ride and detail. First time I've seen pictures of DER Shiney Stuff!

Some 02 Z28/Trans Am/SS/WS6 F-bodies came with an LS6 block but nothing else that would increase horsepower. Regardless, the 01-02 Camaro SS is one of my favorites. The 10-spoke rims are a big improvement over the ZR-1 style rims.

Fbody ls1's were overrated from the get-go (when they started installing them in '98). Not sure on the lt6 designation, but the major improvements came in '01, when the ls1 inherited the ls6 intake, a different cam (milder to accomodate the absence of the egr tube), and a few fittings here and there (micro-technical......too much for me to know exactly). There was the scattering of the ls6 blocks in '01 and '02, but that wasn't announced as it would've been the luck of the draw. In reality, gm was phasing out the ls1 block and would produce the last of the ls1's (thru '05) with the ls6 block design.

Just some tidbits for ls1 fbody fans!

You just made a liar out of me! I totally forgot the F-Bodies got LS6 intakes in 01 and 02.
