Best wheel paint?

Finally the rain stopped today and got to work on my wheels.

I got impatient and sprayed my 2nd wheel of the pasenger side with the left over dupi laquer I had last week because it really bugged me only having one wheel look bad and the other painted.

I was hoping to get both wheels on the drivers side done today but for some reason either the spray nozzle itself was really
fatiguing my hand, to the point that I was concerned about doing the both of them in one day. Or maybe I hurt my hand some other way ,I dont remember. But I at least got one done today and love the WURTH clearcoat laquer spray paint!

It layed a much heavier thicker coat than the Dupi laquer I had and had a stronger different smell also ,much more like the "real thing".

After I prepped the wheel the sun had come around and actually it was perfect spraying in the sun because it helped dry faster and I was able to only wait about 10 minutes betweeen coats ,rather than the recommended 30.

Its been really difficult to spray in my area because there is always very windy and I have no garage .In order to compensate for the wind I had to hold the can and spray much closer then recommended because the wind was taking the product away before it even landed .I was spraying about only 5 inches away and having to move very quickly .

All in all I got 3 double coats down and hope I have enough left over for the other wheel.

But the beauty of laquer is its very forgiving in that its not as prone to get runs like enamal paint .

Hope to get the other one done on my next day off and have some pictures as well!:)

what you should get is this.

RustOleum.com

it really helps and makes it so easy to spray. I too used to get fatigued even after one can of spray paint. My finger would get sore and I would feel it for a couple of days. But with this contraption it's so easy and painless.

Thanks !! Thats an interesting gadget I have never seen before!

I only have one wheel left so Im sure I will be fine but for anyone doing 4 wheels at once what a hand/finger saver!:)

I have yet to be disappointed with any Wurth product, great news. Still waiting on pics!

Heres your pics Todd. Im happy with the Wurth and glad I made the choice.

Got a little dry in the center but the only portion that even shows is the outer area. Laquer paint is really made to polish to get its clarity but Im leaving it alone because its not very visible, plus Im lazy:D

Finished my last wheel today with the Wurth lacquer cleracoat and had a lot of trouble with it spraying correctly on the second coat. Started coming out in droplets and acted like it was running out of aerosol.

I cleaned the nozzle with thinner and tried again and it worked better but not completely .

In order to try and fix all the dryness and droplets that it had created I really loaded it up with heavy wet coats .

In the end I got a better glassed out look and finish but it was a little frustrating to work with .

Not sure if it was the can or my fault .The last wheel I did it sprayed perfectly.

When I shake it there seems to still be product in it so its not empty yet.

Did you turn the can upside down and spray it to clear the nozzle each time you stopped, especially if you left it overnight ?
It will dry in the nozzle and that little L shaped path it has to follow from the bottom of the nozzle tube and out the spray head.
Also, the tube that sticks out of the can can get dried up and give you less pressure out of there too.
If you dont have some lacquer thinner in a can to help clean these parts out, I believe girly-girls-fingernail-polish-remover will work, since it smells a lot like lacquer thinner. :)

Wheel looks great !!!!!!

Thanks Dan !

No I didnt turn the can upside down to clear it ,ever! This morning I did after you mentioned it!;)

Also cleaned the nozzle again with lacquer thinner.

Yesterday I just kept shaking the can and cleaned the nozzle a couple times and it eventually cleared out and behaved normally.

What I did notice today even after letting the wheel dry several hours( and passing the push down with finger test and no imprint)was that I drove several miles last night and at freeway speeds . Now this morning I have a couple nicks that look like from small rocks. Its ok because like I said they are not that visible, but just a warning if you spray really wet coats to let the wheels dry more than a few hours.Laquer paint tends to be on the softer side as it is .

And another consideration with spraying laquer is that you must take very good care of your wheels afterwards because you proably wont be able to use harsh chemicles or acid wheel cleaners that could possible damage the paint.

Maybe the Wurth laquer wheel paint is different and tougher than laquer paint jobs Ive delt with before but I wouldnt chance using acids or letting brake dust build on it too much.
