Compound questions??

Hello everyone,

I'm looking for a good semi abrasive compound. I currently have 3M finesse-it 2, 3M Super Duty Rubbing Compound, Poorboys SSR3 and Strata 1000. Most of these i know are for heavy duty applications, except for the 3M Finesse-it. I thank you all before hand for your input. I own a Rotary and a PC.

Thanks,

Welcome to DC!
Since I don't use a lot of compounds, I can't help much. Mostly, I didn't want you to feel like you were being ignored. :)
Since I use so little of the product, what I have seems to last forever. Because of that, I know nothing about the new Poorboy's products ot the new Meguiar's products.

The older Meguiar's #83 and #80 are a couple I have used with good results as well as Poorboy's SSR 2.5 and the old version of SSR 2.
SSR 2.5 and #83 seem to be quite close in level of abrasiveness. I only use a PC and I think they would be about as abrasive as I would want to use with the PC.
The SSR2 and the #80 also seem to be pretty close.

All four seem to finish pretty good with the PC and a polishing pad. Correction with a PC is very slow. I would think any of the 4 products would work very good with a rotary.
Hopefully Poorboy will have something to say about the new SSR2 and SSR1 when used with a rotary.

1st, :welcome: to DC! Glad to have you here.

I'm not sure I understand your question. A semi-abrasive compound? Do you mean a medium polish, like a step less abrasive than a compound? If so, Poorboy's SSR2.5 is a good polish that is very user friendly. Menzerna's IP, SIP and Power Finish are all very good polishes, but they are more expensive and can be a little finicky until you get the hang of them. Clarify for us and we can give you some accurate recommendations.

Yes you answered my question. I know i said compound, but i meant to say was polish. I'am looking for my second step. Compound, then ?, then my lsp.

Try the "New" ssr2 and ssr1, followed by some Nattys blue. Topped off by Nattys red(all by Poorboysworld.com:bigups)

Oh and bye the way.........:welcome: to "Tha City" hope to see you around more often:rockon

It all comes down to personal preference, but I prefer to have another step after a medium polish. IE: if you used Poorboy's SSRs, I would follow the 2.5 with the 1. Some people are content with the results that they achieve with the 2.5, so it's a call that you would have to make.

You have a couple of other options though.

The Menzerna Power Finish that I mentioned, will cut almost as well as SIP (medium polish), but will finish out like a finishing polish, there by saving a step.

Another option that you have is Megs 105. It is a compound that can be used as a medium polish if you alter the pad/pressure combo. Even used as a compound, a lot of people go straight to a finishing polish because the finish that it leaves is so good. I know that you already have enough compounds though, so this may not be a good option for you.

There is also Megs 205 that is a combo finishing/medium polish. If you use a pad with some cut, it will do some decent correction and leave a good finish. If you need to refine it, you can use it again with a polishing pad.

Economically, the M205 is probably your best option.

Hopefully this helped and didn't confuse you even more! :D

Let me know if you have any more questions.
