we hold completion at the clubs shooting range and one time 6 of the local cops showed up and only one out of the six could hit a bull in the A$$
One cop was very good.

This points out another thing about location here we have a 1000 yard range in the big city you go to a shooting range that may be 50 feet if your Lucky.

Dave would have me take training by a person that I could shoot rings around .

The problem with that is it would be the first step in a series of things designed to prevent you from owning a weapon

Listen to Nancy Polosie and Harry Reed or Ted Kennedy Henry Waxman Barbra Boxer need II list more. All of these people have the same goal they just don't know how to accomplish it.
They suffered a big defeat in the Supreme Court but they now have hope Obama will appoint Liberals to the court and overturn that ruling.

When it became apparent that Obama would probably win gun sales soared.
I lot of people know to pay attention to what they do NOT what they tell you.

I agree the law should not govern what fire arm you want to buy, as long as the proper paperwork is filed
I am not against training, either. But when used as a means of controlling the purchase of a firearm, I am dead set against it. If you seriously think that police train more often than most of the die hard concealed carry folks, you're dead wrong. Many of these guys (normal everyday folks) train and practice all the time.
I didn't say one trains / practices more than another...what I said is...law enforcement officers are trained to use a gun in a highly populated area / public...they simulate these scenarios so that they will react level headed and not emotionally charged as someone who is defending himself or family might...is there a class or place that a average person can go to take that type of training?....

Look at what it takes to get a driver license for kids these days...classes, restrictions, etc...why...because they have no sense of the danger...a car in the un-trained hands is a killing machine...a gun in a non-trained hands is a killing machine
Dave could you provide a link to this Info that people are being killed by law abiding citizens.
I have not read this in fact all statistics I have read point out that 2 million people successfully defend them selves with a firearm each year.

In most cases the presents of a firearm is enough and it is not necessary to use it.

You fail to see what I am saying..I don't care how good a shot you are...how many times you can hit the bulls a$$ out 1000 shots...what I care about is when you are in a public area...and have to use this firearm...where there are a lot of innocent people standing around...do you have training for that?

Let me make this real clear...I'm not against gun ownership...I'm against un-trained people buying them and packing them in public as a means of self defense.

Its like the father that buys his son a brand new Mustang with the biggest motor it has...and a week later he's killed himself and or others, in some high speed accident...that can be prevented with training / education...guns IMO should not be any different

Watch the news...you don't like what I'm saying is all...the fact is there are plenty of stories across this country where someone kills out of rage...there where two on the news here this morning from Oakland CA....training is a method of learning what a firearm can and will do...and how and when it should be used on another person...

Quick, somebody talk about Bug Squash or Super Slick and Suds so Poorboy will like this thread!

I don't care if you have a gun Bart ... or anyone else as long as they are not around me ;)

I like pie

and this is just the kind of stuff Beemer lives for :lol2:

my best friend in college had a huge collection of guns including some semi automatic guns..legal or not ..i didn't care that he owned them, but when he took them out with his other friends, I would leave.. did not want to be there if there was an accident

my question more so for you is...why do you want to carry a gun in public?

I'll give you two good reasons. Trolley Square Utah and Virginia Tech. Both were public shootings in 2007. The Trolley Square shooter was brought down by an off duty police officer in plain cloths shopping with his family. He was also carrying a weapon. Concealed weapons permit requests quandrupled in Utah after that event. There are psychos who just appear with arsenals and start shooting everything in sight. I don't take a gun to work or to school with me, but you better believe if I'm going somewhere public I will have one with me. I'm not going to put myself or my family in a situation where we are cornered by a madman with a gun and no way to defend ourselves. The people who are against others carrying guns are probably people who have never had bullets wizz by your head in a shopping mall or had friends attending schools where their friends were killed by a crazy person.

actually Pocket's sister was at VA tech and I have cousin that worked very close to OK city when it was blown up ...I also live within 20 miles of the twin towers ..so owning a gun does not protect you from unknown hazards in the world

I like chocolate too
