Moving out! :rockon  :dnaughty

Let the house parties begin :lol2:

I've been thinking about it for a while now and I've decided it's time, I'm confident I can make it on my own and I just want the freedom of having my own place. It's 3 BR, 2 BA, 2 car garage, total around 15-1600? SQ Ft. for $700/Mo :rockon  It's owned by my grandfather which iss why I'm getting it so cheap, but all the better for me! :) It seems to be a tradition in my family anyway...My cousin rents a house from him, my brother, my sister and her husband used to, and both my uncle and my dad were given a house. I wish mine was free :hmmm:

It needs a bit of work, but it's going to be cherry when it's finished. I'm getting new carpet, laminate in the kitchen/dining/entry-way, new toilets/sinks, plumbing/lighting fixtures, interior/exterior paint (exterior paint is in good shape but it's grey with purple trim, and the trim makes the grey body look purple too...And the neighboring house is pink... I don't want to tell people "yeah I'm the purple house next to the pink house" :wow: ), stove, over-head fan, water-heater, adding a couple new heat registers for efficiency, base boards, pretty much doing a mini-remodel without replacing the major stuff like windows, roof (although it could use it...), cabinetry, etc. On top of that I've got tons of plans for it too, i.e add to/improve landscaping, more interior work, etc.
It's on well/septic which will save me a few bucks on utilities, but I'm going to have to add an in-line house filter mainly for washing vehicle but also for clearer water in general. Power won't be much since it will be just me living there and I'm good about turning off lights, I buy 90% of my food even though I'm still currently living at home so that won't really change much, and basic small utilities like phone/cable/net won't be much either. All in all I figure I'll spend $8-850/mo on rent/utilities, and I'm making more than enough to cover that and still put a little bit away, my work is steady enough now that I'm confident I'll do fine.

Since I'm picky as hell about keeping our house clean I've always thought it'd be hard to find good roommates, and I'll admit that a lot of my friends are SLOBS and it bugs the living %^#$^ out of me, so I know I wouldn't stand living with them. I'm not a messy person but I tend to let stuff clutter, but that'll change with my own place. I'm not into partying all the time too, I like having my space and independence so I'm REALLY looking forward to having my own house. It'll be a great place to live while I'm going through school and starting out in life, I can't wait! :D

Congrats...I couldn't wait to move out...and while home ownership is a never ending battle it can be very rewarding.

Thanks guys :D For some reason I've always enjoyed doing stuff around the house, I just don't like sitting around being inactive I guess. I've got the freedom to do whatever to this place though... I'm even thinking about a mini bar in the living room, it's pretty damn big so why not?
i'll get some pics soon enough too :bigups

Sounds great how's the lighting in the garage:D

It flat out SUCKS

There's like a single incandescent bulb in the middle on one of the rafters, that's gotta change. I'm thinking 4-5 fluorescent fixtures with like 4 bulbs each will give me more than enough light :bigups

Don't be suprised if you know the layout of your local Home Deopt or Lowes by heart within a month of moving. :)

Scott- I know the local HD's pretty good (I've got one 8 minutes from my house, two 20 minutes away :crazy2: ) and I'm pretty good at finding what I need already :D Lowe's in new to us and I haven't been there a lot but their prices seem slightly lower than HD and I seem to like most their products better too

You are on to the right idea
I've got a lot of plans for the garage as well, it will be extremely automobile oriented

Try and do things that you can take with you. You are only renting this place. Landscaping and stuff is fine, but when you get into remodeling, you start spending money you won't get back.

That's the best part, I won't have to pay for SQUAT :rockon :D

My grandfather owns a decent number of rentals here in town and it can be hard keeping tabs on all of them, so whenever the tenants want to do something to improve the house we usually cover it (I say "we" because my uncle, brother and I do a lot of the maintenance on them), small things I'll probably pay for but 98% of it is covered :dnaughty

Just wanted to do some sort of an update. We're getting close, I was thinking I'll be in by this weekendor perhaps maybe this next week. They measured for carpet today, that's all that's left to do before I can move in. I've done a little bit of landscape work, cleaned up a couple areas and have one area fully planted and picked up some more stuff today. My house has sun all afternoon long so I got a couple shade trees to go next to the driveway and I'll put a few more in once we do the lawn. We've painted it inside/out, laminate in the entry/kitchen/dining areas, new light/plumbing fixtures, fixed the garage so my Jeep fits under the door without scraping :D, new stove, and I'll get a new furnace towards the end of October.
The place is coming together sweet and I'm totally stoked, it's going to be a nice little abode. I scored a sweet ass couch off Craigslist, some matching coffee/end tables, couple chairs for the living room, an entertainment center, and I've been buying all sorts on knick-knacks to fill up the house. But man, after buying all that stuff my bank account sure shows it :wow: But I accept the fact that if I want nice stuff, I've got to pay for it:cheers:

I keep spending time over there just because I get a good feeling when I'm there, I can't wait to move in!
