As part of the 3D giveaway, I chose to review HD Protect. Here is the info from 3D.
Preserves, Protects, Prolongs
• Leather, Vinyl, Plastic, Rubber
• Low Sheen, Light Gloss HD PROTECT is a water-based surface protectant designed to preserve, protect and prolong the life of your vehicle’s interior. Safe for all interior surfaces including the finest leather, plastic, vinyl & rubber.
HD PROTECT adds a durable NANO polymer barrier to your interior that will protect against friction and resoiling degradation. Leather & vinyl will feel softer and more luxurious, without feeling slippery or greasy. Plastics and other trim pieces take on more color and richness without attracting dust or dirt.
HD PROTECT is pH balanced and will help strengthen the moisture content that your leather truly needs to last forever. VOC compliant & Bio-degradable
Directions on the bottle
SHAKE WELL BEFORE USE.
Thoroughly clean the surface using HD TOTAL interior cleaner. Apply HD PROTECT immediately after using a clean, soft HD Black or Red foam applicator.
3 alterations of finish appearance:
Matte: Apply & immediately buff surface with semi-damp towel
Satin: Apply & let dry
Glossy: Apply 2 coats & let dry
I used the interior of my 2002 Camaro SS. All photos taken with my iphone.
I used a foam applicator pad to apply. After applying and letting ti sit for a few minutes I lightly buffed the area's.
Here's the consistency of the product on the applicator.
I taped off a couple areas on the door panel with various textures to them. I cleaned the area's with a little APC prior to applying.
This is the leather area on the door panel.
50/50. As you can see it darkens the area. The left side of the tape line had some Meguiar's QID from a couple days ago. Good comparison between the two.
This is a vinyl area on the door panel.
50/50. It was a little hard to capture the area as I was losing daylight but you can still see it.
This is on an area of textured plastic.
50/50. This is one coat and not buffed. The texture hides the shine a little.
Various final shots. These area's were lightly buffed.
Applied it to the dash.
Also applied to these pieces on the door jams of my daily driver
Here are my final thoughts.
First of the scent of the product is amazing. It has that leather scent to it.
As with any other product a little goes a long way. It has a semi thick lotion consistency. It spreads out really nicely. I did get a couple high spots in a couple area's but I tend to think that it was the temperature I was applying it. It was starting to get a little cool but nothing a light buff took care of.
It does darken the appearance of the interior. But the appearance can be controlled. I tend to like the satin look on my interiors. I typically use Meguiar's Natural Shine or Ultimate Protectant. HD Protect falls in between the two in terms of applying, letting it dry and coming back with a light buff.
Overall I enjoyed using it. I would recommend this. It's great because it can be used on all surfaces. It is water based. Again the leather scent just adds to the nostalgia of using it. I can't comment on the durability but if it lasts a month or two then I'm happy.
