Zxilon

I am curious about this stuff. I just finished detailing my '02 Tundra and will be posting pics within the next couple of days. Upon pulling into work this morning a coworker noticed the difference in my truck and asked what I had done. So I ran through all the details and he asked if I would consider doing his '06 Hyundai Azera. He said that he had this "special" coating on it and it was supposed to last for five years. His brand new car doesn't look anywhere near as good as my 4 year old truck. What should I expect if I agree to detail this guys car. Will I have to do anything out of the ordinary?

The Xilion stuff is a scam the dealerships use to make extra money. It usually costs 500 bucks and of course will not last 5 years. If your doing any polishing on the car, it will probably remove the stuff, but anything you do to the car will probably ensure more longevity and certainly a better appearance.

The only thing I worry about is voiding the customers warranty on the car.

I would beleive that polishing the car would void the warrenty on the sealant, but I dont know why you would want it on you car anyway. lol

He already bought the car and go the Zxilon stuff on there. I wouldn't want it on my car but he already has it so now I am faced with detailing his car and voiding the warranty. His car will look a lot better but in the long run he may have problems with the warranty.

I'm not sure what you're worried about, the guy isn't happy with the appearance of his car which is a year old, tops, he certainly isn't going to be happy for the rest of the four year warranty period. Someone is going to have to void the Zxilon "warranty", might as well be you. He may have already voided it anyway, apparently many of them have fine print that states you have to come back periodically for a reapplication, or it voids the warranty. They will pretty much do anything to void it, because their product is no better than any other and they aren't going to be liable for paint damage. Someone was quoting a warranty on here for this or a similar product which didn't cover bird poop, acid rain, tree sap, etc. So what would be covered? What other reason do you use a paint protectant for?

im confused here . . . are you refering to the warranty on the overall car or the warranty on his perma plate nonsense . .Perhaps I missed that inyour initial post. . . any expierienced detailer (yourself included) knows that perma plate is like KSG x 15 and does not last "5 years" Its all hype. If it could last that long it would be called "I had another coat of clear put on my car" So, if your gonna clay, compound and polish his ride there wont be any "permazxilonsupersealerpro9000" on his paint. . . therefore there shouldent be any worry of a warranty for a product that no longer exists on a paint finish . . Your customer returning to you for repeat buisness and paint protection the old fashion and correct way is the new warranty he will have concerning the protection of his finish . . .

i have a question about that stuff the dealer does....HOW DO THEY KNOW IF YOU HAVE POLISHED THE CAR OR NOT....i mean, my sister wants me to detail her jeep and part of her bargaining in the purchase was a free sealant deal...but its black and swirled up and she wants me to detail it....

will me polishing void the warranty on it, and how would they know > it looks better than it should? hahaha

Read the fine print. The reason they guarantee this crap for 5 years, is because they allow for one reapplication per year at the dealership. They're essentially having you pay them $500 to apply a sealant that probably gets applied to EVERY car on their lot as part of new car prep, and then come back annually for reapplication until you get to the 5 year mark.

5 total applications might be $10 worth of product, and I'm being generous. Assume they pay the "detailer" they have applying this stuff $10/hr, and he takes an hour to smear it on your paint and wipe it off with an old towel. Again, highly doubtful they're even that careful. Anyway, the total dealer cost for your $500 "protection package" is probably well less than $100.

I would hazard a guess that very few people that buy this package come back for repeated applications year after year. Missed applications are pure profit. The only way I'd ever buy a package like this would be if they're polishing annually as well, and only then if I know for sure that the guy they have doing it knows what the heck he's doing.

Don't have any fear about polishing and repairing the dealer's mess for your friend. The dealer will be glad to reapply the stuff next year if your friend is dumb enough to go back for more.

Xzillon doesn't need to be reapplied every year to keep the warrentee, but it is easily voided. You cant use dawn, cant polish and it doesn't cover much to begin with. It only garentees that the paint wont fail under normal conditions in a 4-5 year period. Like most warentees, "normal conditions" means, we reserved the right to call almost anything not normal, so we can void your warentee. LOL

But I say clay, polish it and wax or seal it, make it look good. If the paint fails within the period of warentee, all he has to do is not mention you, but it probably still wont be covered. LOL I mean they cant prove someone buffed it and waxed it after a while.
