Hi all,

is zaino z-10 water based?

i've searched the forum and the internet and couldn't find an answer. i am considering z10 for my subaru's leather steering wheel, which is most likely coated leather, and want to know if it is suitable.

thanks

I believe that it is water based and yes it is fine to use on coated leather but I wouldn't recommend it on a leather steering wheel as it may make it too slippery.

thanks wannafbody - what would you use on a coated leather steering wheel?

Maybe Megs interior QD otherwise leave it alone. I once used TW leather wipes on my steering wheel and it was way to slick.

Can anyone else confirm Z10 being water based? Wannafbody- I got a F bod myself, is this what you use on the seats cuz I know our seats are coated and thick too!

It doesn't leave a greasy mess behind, does it?

I use Z10 on the steering wheel all the time on my clients cars and it is not slippery at all.

I too believe it is water based. You can always call Zaino and ask them, they are pretty open to questions like that.

You need to use a protector not a conditioner. Conditioners are pointless on coated leather and will only attract more dirt which is what you need to avoid particularly on a steering wheel where you get body oils etc breaking down the finish. Then keep it very clean and reprptected on a regular basis and it will last much longer.

I have always heard that is water based, but never really seen any definite answers saying so for sure

Which products are out there that are a true protector and are safe to use?

Yea i havent heard a definite answer either.

Judy-Is it ok to use 303 Aerospace Protectant on my leather after its been thoroughly cleaned. Thanks.

There are very few true leather protectors on the market. The only successful ones are based on fluorocarbon technology (similar to how scotchgard worked). 'Conditioners' with added protection do not have enough active ingredients to be of any effect at all.

Protectors are easy to test and there are standard ways of testing to see if they are effective or not.

We test most products on a regular basis.

It is fine to use 303 if all you are looking for is UV protection but as a protector against dirt and oils it shows no resistance.

Fluorocarbon protectors are water based and very easy to apply also keeping the leather rehydrated. They are of enormous benefit on both pigment coated leather (where they protect the finish coating from dirt and body oils which cause damage and also inhibit dye transfer) and on aniline style leather (absorbent leather) where they actively inhibit the absorption of body oils etc and make the leather easier to keep clean.

So what product would you recommend to do the job right?
