Zaino Steps

Hi All...

I am new here. I joined just to ask this 1 question:

I recently bought Zaino Z-KIT2 and Z-TRIO. The kits include:

ZFXâ„¢ Flash Cure Accelerator Additive

Z-2 PROâ„¢ Show Car Polish for Clear Coated Car Finishes

Z-5 PROâ„¢ Show Car Polish for Swirl Marks and Fine Scratches

Z-6â„¢ Ultra Clean Gloss Enhancer Spray

Z-7â„¢ Show Car Wash

Z-18â„¢ Claybar

Z-AIO All-in-one

Z-CS Clear Seal

Z-8 Grand Finale Spray Seal

I plan to go all out on a red 2004 Mustang (with swirlies and water spots), a new grey 2009 Mustang (good paint), and a new black 2010 Camaro (I don’t have it yet).

The Zaino site leaves the instructions very open ended… and I can’t find a method that used ALL of the products.

So I improvised...To the 1-week old grey 2009 Mustang, I already did this ... in this order:

Dawn, Claybar, Z-AIO, Z5, Z6, Z2, Z8... its looks great. I plan to do one more Z2 and then ZCS later this week. (Finish with Z-8?)

Is this the correct method I should be using? Should I do the same for the black and red cars?

I did a search, but I couldn't find anything that was strictly detailed instructions using all of the purchased products... in the 2 Zaino kits.

Your process is fine. However, if your looking to remove swirls from the mustang, you'll need something with some cut like ZPC, and a machine. ZPC may not be stong enough, depending on the severity.

I've yet to have a Zaino question that their web site couldn't answer very clearly.

not marketing...

word-of-mouth... I got tierd of everyone on Camaro5 rave about Zaino.

so i bit...

btw, this stuff is awesome!!!

Zaino has a cult following. I would argue all day that the prep and process are first and foremost to ANY product. Zaino is good at selling alot of products and steps.

I have had friends try to convince me to try it, but after choosing another line of 1 chemical for sealant w/ no additives to mix and no need for mega multiple coats (and better results), I have dragged them from Zaino to another product.

Good luck and I hope you get the results you are chasing. Just remeber expensive products will not enable you to cut corners like polishing the "Swirlies" out. Zaino make a product that hides swirls but if that is what you are after long term, I think its safe to say your in the worong place.

The guy on this board can better help you pick a polish system and corrisponding pads to remove the defects in the clear coat and then you can choose your LSP to protect the paint.

Good luck.

Wow, a lot of steps and products. What great marketing for Zanio.

The beauty of zaino is once the sequence ( correction) is peformed its sooo easy to maintain because of its outstanding durability.

I bought a brand new black Grand Prix in 2001. I didn't own a buffer/polisher at that time.

The first week I owned it, I applied a couple coats of Z5. I repeated the process every month or so and never had any swirls on the car, not even after 3 years!

You see, I didn't add multiple layers because I "HAD" too, but for the shear joy of "waxing" the car!

I had so many layers on that thing, that the elements never had a chance to get to the paint!!!

Best looking paint of any car I've ever owned... and no polisher.

You'll do fine with the Zaino.

BTW... 8 years later and I'm still hooked.:bow

Final note..... Don't get over zealous on the Clearseal and Z8..... THINNER IS BETTER!

If you have little or no experience in detailing I would recommend that you have your old Stang professionally polished by a pro. It will cost you much less than buying all the equipment, compounds and pads and you would not know how to use them anyway. Then you can go to town with all your Zaino products and maintain that appearance for many years. Read about proper washing and paint care on this and other car forums. This will get you the best result IMO. That Zaino does smell delicious!

So he has 2 LSPs, a spray sealant, a QD, a carwash soap, claybar and an AIO.

I'm not sure what you mean by a lot of products.

Would you not say that about covers the basics?

I'd wonder if he got the leather cleaner/conditioner and perfect tire shine. Would that would really be going overboard? :nixweiss

How many LSPs do you have right now?

:clap::clap::clap: Agreed :clap::clap::clap:

Your method seems fine but I am not sure if you are really getting much benefit out of all those different products. After polishing I just use the Zaino AIO, 2 coats of Z2, and occasionally Z8 and the car looks great and beads and protects very well even after several months of just washings. As for polishing and getting rid of swirls you may need something with a little more bite then what Zaino has to offer and I would recommend Menzerna IP or Sonus 2 followed by 3 or something else designed more for swirl removal to be used with a PC.

OK.... I got a little over-anxious and went ahead with the older red mustang ( its a red 2004)...

I did...Dawn, clay bar, Z-AIO, Z5, and Z6

It looks good, but as someone said earlier...I should have taken it to a pro to get the water spots buffed out. I was hoping that the clay bar and polish would at least hide them...... The water spots are harder to see, but they are definitely still there..... they are very noticeable with my overhead florescent garage lamp, but not so much in the sun.

The spider-webbing (or swirlies? - not sure which one i've got) are pretty much gone (or hid). I am selling this car in a couple of months to a 16 year-old nephew in order to pay for my new 2010 Camaro. I won’t bother getting the red mustang car perfect... I'll write it off as good practice for my REAL car!

I will get some pics up of the 2009 Mustang after I get done with the Z-CS and the Z-8. It looks awesome now though... that’s why I’m delaying.

What I learned... Zaino is awesome for new cars or older cars with properly prepared paint (I'm sure you guys already knew this).

Next question... Should I expect any swirlies or water spots on my new black car? What if its gets a half-@ss wash job at the dealership?

What is a PC? A buffing machine?

If so, I don't mind buying one, but I am no expert and I dont want to mess up the paint.

A PC is a Porter-Cable 7424 Polisher. It has a Random Orbit buffing pattern and it is very easy for an inexperienced detailer to use. You will need the machine (around $110-129), a Velcro backing plate, and several pads of various "cut"... (Yellow cutting pads, Orange light cut pads, white polishing pads, red finishing pads...etc)...

Most detailers who use a PC use 6-1/2" pads. I prefer the 5-1/2" pads because they seem to cut a little quicker, you can get into tighter spots, and they are quite a bit cheaper...

If you want to keep it simple, you can use ZPC Fusion, and follow with ZAIO, applied by PC.

For heavier swirls, scratches, you would need a more aggressive polish. Meduim cut, fine cut and finishing glaze would be a good start.

Do some searches for PC on this forum... you will learn a lot!:up

Swirl marks come from washing, drying, wiping with Microfiber towels, weather, anything that involves touching the paint on your vehicle.....

Water spots can come from rain, or washing and not drying, or not drying thoroughly. Water spots can also occur from a sprinkler system, any number of water sources where you can't dry your car.

The short answer is yes. Your new car will get swirl marks and water spots...

The solution is to stay ahead of it by protecting the paint and keeping the swirls polished and the water spots cleaned up.
