Zaino or Klasse SG for the winter, lets get a good debate going!

So, within two weeks I will start getting the car ready for the harsh MN winters. Last year it was Zaino, this year thinking about SG.



What are your thoughts and why???



I have heard that SG will last longer and being that I will not be able to apply more of either one after the snow starts to fly I am thinking which ever is the most durable and which ever I can layer the most.



Anyone ever put SG over Zaino or vice versa? Maybe interchanging layers?



A good experiment perhaps??

Is the use of both advisable/possible? Wouldn't that be the best of both worlds? Also, what about topping with the current version of Collinite? Would that be the ultimate winter protection?
 
I say Zaino. I have had 2 layers of Z5 on my car since March of this year and I still have slickness and small tight beads, not as small and tight as they were when first applied, but its been almost 7 months! Klasse never gave me that kind of durability that I could see and feel at least.

Even if SG did last longer (which, in my experience, doesn't), the nice qualities of it (slickness, water repellancy, shine) die down much sooner than the product itself. It may well be on the paint for 11 months, but with modern clearcoats, sealants do very little for actual protection.
 
Aaahhhh....I think you'll be fine with one coat of Meg's Gold Class wax. :D :xyxthumbs



Seriously though...with winter salt and debris I don't think there is any magic product you can use. I think you'd be better off using what you use all the time...just more often and with more washes in between applications.

What product(s) then do do well for actual protection then? :confused: I've always been led to believe sealants are the ones that are the leader in protection.

I do not know what Collinite is to be honest. Got a link or an explanation. In my eyes it doesn't do much good to top either of these in the winter as the primarily offer just aesthetic benefits.

Yeah this is news to me. I mean that is why we apply things like Zaino and Klasse.
 
I slapped a coat of #16 on top of my 2 coats of Zaino. 16 is suppossed to be pretty durable, so on top of Zaino....... we'll see!

I apply such products to keep my car looking detailed after a wash, even though months have passed since the last application. With winter, salt, etc, there is no replacement for frequent washing or QDing.
 
Sounds like you mean lasting longer shouldn't equate to providing good protection. Do I understand you right?

SG isn't very slick to begin with. It's more of a silky smooth feeling that doesn't really grab you the same way as Z and WG, etc, thus people donlt really appreciate it. IMHO, SG does hold onto to its silky smooth feeling for a reasonable amount of time.



As for water repellency, SG is very good initially, but levels off after a while. But IMHO it does not totally die. There is definitely long term sheeting with SG.



And with respect to shine, I have to disagree with you. After 8 months of 3XSG 1XBlitz, my car looked fantastic the first time I hand washed it. The SG did a fantastic job of protecting the finish.

You can't go wrong with either one. Just flip a coin...

I tried Zaino for the first time, multiple coats on a properly prepped car. I have to say SG (to me) feels slicker, like butter in fact. The Zaino looks nice, better than SG? not really (to me), I find it hard to tell them apart. I know SG will last and last, I hope the Z does as well. I wont stop using the Zaino, I will finish the bottle but then im back to SG. Just found the SG to be more practicle. I do like the fact that I can do multiple layers of Zaino in one day, wonder of ZFX would do the same for Sg? anyone ever try?



To be honest I was expecting more from Zaino, maybe because I have heard so much about it and couldn't try it since they wont ship to my home state. I do think the car wash and QD are great though.

If I'm going to try something from Zaino, it's going to be those ,the tire and the leather dressing
 
Oh yea I forgot, the leather in a bottle was really nice. Its on the small side for a 10 dollar bottle though but a really nice product.
 
Zaino held up really well for me last winter, so I'm using it again this winter. I'll probably use AIO/SG on a different car. Either way, both Zaino and SG will help you deal with the winter. Maintenance is the tough part in the winter.

The beauty of both products is that they can take a lickin' and keep on protecting without a strict maintenance regimen (ie weekly washing and QD'ing).
