Zaino/Menz System?

Need some help deciding on a good detailing system. I detail my cars and do some oddjobs and always seem to have trouble with swirls. At the moment I am just using megs but would like to upgrade to some form of menezerna and zaino. I was planing on going with SIP, 106FF, zaio, z-cs, then z-8, but the price is alittle much for me. I was thinking maybe IP, z-5, z-8 or something along those lines. Needs to be cheap and not take me forever.

I have a pc and microfiber towels. How do i properly clean the pads. The ones I have clean seem very rough now and I am probably just going to purchase new ones. I cleaned then by soaking them in soap, rising them out, and letting them dry.

Thanks,

Dan

SIP and 106ff are two great products. For the zaino stuff I would reccomend skipping the Z-AIO step after your finishing polish and go right to the sealant of your choice after a thorough IPA wipedown, just make sure the paint is clean and defect free before using Z2 or Z5. Zaino reccomends the z-aio step prior to applying their sealants for proper "bonding" buts its certainly not necessary and I stopped using the z-aio middle step after two cars and saw no difference in the finish, companies will always try to sell you saying "if you want this to look its best you should also buy this..." Now if price is a concern than Z-CS is not needed, takes a very long time to cure anyways. My process, using the products you specified would go something like this if the paint needed moderate correction

SIP

50/50 IPA wipedown

106ff

50/50 IPA wipedown again

Z2 or Z5pro applied by hand in straight back and fourth motions(add ZFX if you want to apply multiple coats in a short amount of time, let cure)

Z8 final wipedown

It may be a bit steep price wise, but that is a very nice lineup you have going there. You could probably make it a bit less expensive by changing your LSP's from Zaino to something else, but I'd sure stick with the SIP and 106FF if you can. You could also switch from PO106FF to 1Z Hochglanz to save a bit, too. There are some really inexpensve LSP's out there that will give you great looks, durability, and protection for quite a bit less money than Zaino, but sticking with the list you have above will give great results, too.

I use SnappyPad pad cleaner. Just one envelope in about three gallons of water will clean a *bunch* of pads. The stuff will keep for a long, long time after you've mixed it with water. Just throw some sort of cover over the top of your bucket, and you've got it ready when you need it.

Also you might consider replacing the 106 and going with ZPC (Fusion), it's not a final polish, but if very mild and is uses a diminishing abrasive. With the PC on speed 5 it jewels the surface very nicely, cleans off the Menz wax lubes as well as leaves an extreme slickness and perfect prep for the Z5 or CS.

To get proper Zaino bonding, you might want to consider DuPont Prep-Sol instead of an alcohol wipedown (unless it is 91% or greater). But after the wipedown, you may not like the results of 106ff as much.

I had issues with Z5 bonding after 106, got 3 weeks durability. I'd go with IP and FFII, cheaper and work well on most cars, and no bonding problems that I've seen and I've used Z2, Z5, NXT 2.0, 21 2.0, & FK 2180. Here's a pad cleaning tip, get some Dawn Power Desolver from Lowes, and an old tooth brush, spray, scrub under hot water, dry and you're good to go. It's cheap and available locally.

Hmm interesting. I never use anything less than 91% IPA but should I look into prep-sol anyways, do you cut it the same 1:1 w. distilled water like a regular IPA wipedown?
