Zaino and many other new products on my Teg (winter trim)

I'd like to thank Craigster and groebuck for there generous donations of Flitz Metal Polish, Z2, Z5, Z1, Z16, and ZFX. They proved to be quite successful today. :)

Today was beautiful! Very sunny out and a touch brisk but I made the best of it. Got started a little before lunch time due to a belated birthday party extravaganza last night :) ... I S+W'd, then inspected the surface.

Clay was not needed as all of the panels were very smooth. I started with the windows and Autoglym Glass Polish. This polish claimed to lift deep down grime leaving my windows very clear. The polish went on and off very easily with a terry applicator and MF towel to remove. It left the glass very smooth and definately lifted anything that was on/in the glass, out. I ended up using Zaino Z5 x 3 on the glass to experiment, but I will get to Zaino in a bit.

On to the rims, tires, and wells. I repainted my rims flat black over Thanksgiving and just hated how flat they looked. Thanks to 69GTOJudge's tip at the Poorboy's Meet back in August, I used a tire dressing to make the black of the rims, uniform with the tires. For this, I used Zaino Z16 x 2. I ended up doing the same on the tires and wells. Z16 left a nice low-medium gloss sheen and a little goes a LONG way. I will post back durability once a rainstorm hits.

For the exhaust, I used Flitz Metal Polish. This stuff is REDICULOUS. Its has the consistency of a car polish and works in very easily. I used it with #0000 Steel Wool in some areas to remove tar and such. In short, I have used many different kinds of metal/aluminum polishes in the past on this exhaust and I haven't receieved such reflectivity than with Flitz. When I do some more testing, I will give it a formal review.

For the paint, I had some light marring throughout the finish...Gotta love Honda clearcoats :) ...I used my trusty Makita Rotary and LC Polishing Pad @1500 rpm using Menzerna PO85RD polish. This did an exceptional job of removing the defects and leaving a swirl free shine. Following, I applied Klasse AIO with a Sonus MF applicator and removed with a Pakshak Ultra Fine MF. The surface was ready for Zaino! Mixed up about an ounce of Z5 and 5 drops of ZFX. I ended up doing 3 consecutive THIN coats in under 90 mins. Zaino goes on quite easy and THIN coats is the key. It dried up for me in about 10-15 mins and came off rather easy with an Adam's MF. Coat 1 and 2 I really noticed a whole new meaning to the world "BLING"...The surface was very bright and picked up every ounce of light leaving an extremely glossy finish. With the 3rd coat I noticed the biggest gain in slickness. When done, it felt almost as slick as UPP. Anyways, thus far, I am very happy with the Z. Tomorrow I will use ZFX and Z2 x 3 and I should be good for winter :)

Oh yeah, winter trim consists of:

-Swapped back to original bumpers and skirts

-Grillcraft grille and PIAA fogs on the front bumper

-Flat black stock wheels with All Season Dunlops

-Black Widow Spoiler Removed

Couple more coming...

Great description and looks good! You take excellent pictures.

I was once a Zaino-head...thanks Fbody boards  but have since found the autopian way and never looked back. I think I get much better results with other products but the Zaino sure did last a long time, I will give it that. Definately a good choice for winter protection, I probably shouldn't have sold mine:(

"Clay was not needed as all of the panels were very smooth."

Understatement of the decade. :)

"In short, I have used many different kinds of metal/aluminum polishes in the past on this exhaust and I haven't receieved such reflectivity than with Flitz. "

Not only that, it works great at cleaning contacts on your stereo system. Audio is my other big hobby and Flitz is a go-to product. Believe it or not, using it on the power plugs on a hirez system can make a sonic difference.

Sean, is it me or is the TEG looking as good as it ever has?

Bling is right

Great work once again!

I'm really interested to hear your long term impression of Zaino.

How do you like the initial appearance?

wow.. that last pic looks sick... really red, and depth looks infinite... u can see basically the whole block of condos. have u ever thought of getting a typeR spoiler? just curious. u car kinda reminds me of a mugen/spoon vehicle especially with the red wheels on. i have never used zaino, nor do i plan to, but ive said that before about other products.. let me know how it stacks up against klasse sg (as that seems to be one of the more durable sealants). when do u plan on being in town again?

Wow! From the pictures I've seen of your car this is, IMO the best its ever looked. Not thats its ever looked bad but it has tons more depth and wetness now.

Hehehe .. What can I say .. your car looks SICK!

Seriously, one thing your many threads show is that good prep is the major factor in getting a vehicle to look it's best. The LSP is just icing on the cake. Great looking detail, let us know how the finish holds up with time, it should feel slicker after curing for 24hrs or so.

Mike

Hey thank you all for the compliments :)

Lee: Thanks for that tip! It's definately up there :)

Zane: I liked it a lot. It seemed as though it caught lighting from everywhere. Lots 'o relfections, lots 'o gloss. More commenting tomorrow after Z2 x 3.

Navindra: I probably will in the spring. The body kit and rims will probably go as well. I am doing a lot of traveling with the business and worrying about 18s and a low kit is nerve racking and stressful. I will most likely go with an all OE kit, either no spoiler or ITR, and rota gt3's painted to match my paint.

Zaino is NOT bad stuff. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I like it thus far. As far as compared to SG, no idea! I haven't used SG in about a year. I'll have to break it out again for something :)

I will be home the weekend of the 17th.

Thanks again!!!

hmmm... when u say oe kit do u mean the integra type r front lip and side skirts? that would look sick, especially with the integra type r wing. have u ever seen my friends graphite integra @ the king kullen in wading river? i think he has the same front lip, and side skirts, but he has a wings west g5 rear lip or something like that, with an oem integra type r wing..

Excellent detail and review, Sean. Seems your Zaino impressions are similar to mine (see new thread in product review section), even right down to the improvement in appearance with the second layer, slickness after 3 layers (and the passage of a few hours) and how soon you can buff off the excess. Zaino definitely gives a bright and reflective shine.

You were lucky, you finished with ample daylight left. I took my pics 10 minutes before sundown, going to take more in the morning if it is still dry.

Burly: It's from their Ceramiclear Polish Line. It's a very fine polish like Menzerna Final Polish but with a slightly higher gloss rating. You can only buy it Menzerna USA direct.

Navindra: Yup. The ITR front lip and rear spoiler, and the highly sought after skirts and rear lip. I will do a knock off jobby because I really don't care :)

Scott: Yes...scary how close the reviews are :) ...I can't wait to peek tomorrow :)

Vernon: Yeah I'm ordering 3 more bottles just to hit that record :down ...When I do the Z2 x 3 tomorrow, I'd challenge that 208 layer guy to a side by side comparo. The difference is in the prep!

Thanks Tom :)

Seems like AIO+Zaino=teh win for a quick and durable combo. Much quicker and easier to use than I expected, given some of the previous Zaino threads I had read.

I have a comptech itr wing with led if you are interested. I am selling my teg so I took it off and put the gsr one back on. Funny you should mention the gt3's, I just bought a set to sell with the car because I'll sell my ssr's seperate, but anyways my first impression of them is that they look about a size smaller than they really are because the polish goes up onto the face, hard to explain but I can post/send you a pic if you want.
