Your thoughts on the Porter Cable 7428 Rotary?

As I understand it, this is the least recommended machine. Most people on here (I believe) recommend the Hitachi or the Makita. I personally am getting the Makita.
 
Ok, the PC Rotary will get the job done. I have never used a different rotary to compare it to. My major complaint as wimpy as it makes me sound is that its heavy. It can be difficult do buff vertical panels for any length. The speed dial also does not show RPMs, rather just numbers 1-6 which until you learn what they correspond to RPM wise, can be tricky.

Those are my only complaints with my Chicago Electric rotary, which is about 200 dollars cheaper:idea

Somebody will pay you $100 to buy a Chicago Electric?



If you search around you can find online prices for the 7428 under $100. It's definitely the best deal of any of the high quality workhorse rotaries.



The 7428 is a very nice German-built machine. I like using it. It would be nice if it went below 1000 rpm but I don't generally buff that slow anyway.



I can't say I like it better than a Dewalt or Makita but at half the price it's hard to beat.

I did a quick search and found it for $225 at a few places.

I got my 7428 a few weeks ago from ebay. 89 bucks.



I've only used it a few times, but it seems to be fairly well-made. I gotta agree with Billy the Kid, though, it's really heavy.



"Utterguys" is the ebay seller that I bought mine from. As of last week, he still had around 20 for sale at 89 bucks Buy It Now.



Alot of buffer for the price, IMO.



There's a few places on the net that have the RPM's listed for the PC 7428's dial settings. It's 1,000 - 1,200 for the number one setting, then goes up by about 400 RPM per number.
