Yet ANOTHER FMJ detail!

Not much too say about the FMJ.....cept I love the stuff:)

This detail started out with some rotary work. White pad with Hi-Temps Heavy Cut Leveler........don't let the name scare you, it is a great product that when used at lower RPM's and with a LC polishing pad gives you great results with hardly any splatter, low dusting and a great glossy finish.

Then came another polishing pad with Menzerna IP and FP applied with the Cyclo.

Hand applied AIO and topped and sealed with FMJ. I prefer the AIO as a base for the FMJ over the FTG as the FTG can produce more problems thanit solves. When I have some extra time I will fiddle with the FTG to find a happy medium with the stuff.

Oh well, on to the pics.....3 to be exact.

By the way.........that's Poorboys Bold N Bright on the tires.....that stuff is way cool:xyxthumbs

I have the SSR 2.5 to test for Steve but just can't find enough play time to do so properly...especially with a rotary

Looks great Anthony! FMJ has a nice look to it. How is it holding up?

BTW, what year was that S? New enough to have the ceramiclear paint?

So far FMJ is holding up very nice. I have it on one MB and we are on week 4 with no touch ups and paint still looks great and feels good. Obviously it doesn't feel like it did the day it was detailed but it holds a slick feeling longer than carnaubas, or so it seems.

As for year.....man I forget the year but it is not the ceramiclear paint.

Thanks by the way:D

Anthony, I think your the only one who is posting regular reports and pictures of FMJ use. I'm trying to get a handle on the product before purchase and the glaze thing makes me pause.

Thanks for the product/machine reports too! AIO, you say? Very interesting.:xyxthumbs

I would really like to know more about FMJ.

Keep up the great work!

marty,

The FTG is OK as long as you use very little, doing small areas and working the product until almost gone.

I prefer not to use it because I always want nothing to hide or fill..just a personal pet peeve of mine....some paints though need a glaze or many car owners desire that glazed look on their paints.

I personally prefer the AIO/FMJ combo and it looks fantastic if the AIO is layed on top of FP:up

If the weather holds out I will have more FMJ pictures this week:bounce

Oh, thanks for the kind words also:)

Anthony

Anthony-I don't know if you have the Wolfgang twins (I think you mentioned you do), but if so, have you tried FMJ after the Wolfgang pre-cleaner? Seems very 'AIOish' to me.

I hope you are getting the great sunny days down in SA that were have been having in Dallas. About time we dry out for a bit.

Scott,

I have the Wolfgang sealant but not the pre-clean. I do though have some Blackfire gloss left over.......hope it is still good........maybe I'll give that a try on something.

The weather in the days has been hot and sunny but at night we get a few thunderstorms roll through. We have rain forecasted for Tuesday and Wedenesday but I am praying it just passes us right on by.....I feel we have had enough rain to do us for a few more weeks!

Anthony

Anthony-we've had enough rain to do without for a few months. The park I skate at is still closed after the heavy rains Tuesday and Wednesday. The Trinity overflowed its banks and some parts of the park were under 12 feet of water. If it stays dry, they may have the park cleaned up and reopened by mid week. If it rains, who knows?

Besides, I am still behind.

Send some of that rain over here to NM, the Rio Grande is pretty dry.

Anthony and/or Scott, et. al.

What happens or what does one see when a product "doesn't work" or "bond"? Is it just a loss of beading or what?

Marty,

You usually see it, or rather it "looks" as if it is floating on the top, as in it smears around and sometimes only removes when washed and dried.

Other times it may dull the gloss of the finish or make it look cloudy, depends really on the color.

Anthony

I really appreciate the information, Anthony.

I've wondered about this for some time. I'm curious about #7 or Hand Polish with FMJ and EX-P and will test soon. :nixweiss Got to know.

I have used FMJ with Mother's S&G, P21S GEPC and with its own FP, FP II and FTG. No issues whatsoever.

As a matter of fact, one of my best clients who loves #7 wants me to do a Show Car Glaze and an FMJ next week. We prepped and sealed her car last month with the Menzerna quintuplets, so this job should be very easy. I'm dying to see this combo myself and I don't expect any bonding problems based on my own experiences so far with FMJ.

I like the results I've been getting with #7 but not with NXT. I was, therefore, thinking of getting FMJ. Did the #7/FMJ combo work?

FMJ--if it proves notably durable, say like 6 months , like the Klasse twins, looks to be a very attractive alternative to a traditional AIO/SG job. I hope it does hold up as well as Klasse :xyxthumbs

You can have it all. So far, Arlington has received 8+ inches of rain this month...normal is about 3" or so.

Nice work Anthony :xyxthumbs

I LOVE FTG! It's results are awesome on dark colored cars. I just load up an LC polishing pad, start with the hood, and then I can do almost the whole car without re-applying. I haven't had streaking issues either. I just work real well and use a plush MF to remove.

I like it better than Meguiars #81. In fact, I'll be using this weekend on an older dark blue RX7.

I ususally waffle between FTG or VM for my glazing step. I'll admit the VM is easier to use.

I have been topping FTG with #16.
