Yep, more details! (including a car I'd never done before!)

Great results!

"........Anyway I went over it twice with Meguiars Swirl Free Polish............"

I'm curious about your method here. My impression of what most people do is work one area until it is done, then move to the next. Is your "twice" two "polishes" where the product breaks down and you move onto the next section? So if you worked a section once and then decided you weren't done and put some more product on and worked it again, that would be twice?

Or was it a time factor....you went around the car once, then realized that you had time to seek a higher level of perfection?

Kev

To do the before and after shots in the other thread but I'll post the pics here also, I did the rear fender to show the difference over the rear door. At that point, I had gone over the rear fender with Swirl Free Polish two times, just to get a little more polishing before moving on to something lighter; then went back over it with Vanilla Moose.

You can see how much darker, richer and streak, swirl and scratch free the fender is compared to the door.

After I did that, I then went over the entire rest of the car twice with Swirl Free, once with Vanilla Moose, then with Poorboy's Polish w/Carnauba, and topped with Carnauba Moose.

I am in love with that M Coupe in general. Everytime I see one (rarely), I almost crash or I stop to chat. Something about them that just stands out from any other car... Scott, any other shots of the M?

Ask and you shall receive!

That Benz trunklid is NO FAIR :D. The paint looks soo vibrant and clear! I thought the S-Class (mercedes in general?) had a lot of orange peel, if I can remember from one of your other posts? Looks level to me there.

Usually, on the horizontal surfaces, Mercedes have minimal orange peel. The problem seems to be the vertical surfaces. That particular S500 has a lot less orange peel than the S600 I did on Monday had. :nixweiss

BTW, here is another shot of the Mazda:

And finally, a 1998 GMC 1500 I did this past Sunday. Very nice paint on this truck, little orange peel. I used Poorboy's Polish w/Carnauba and topped with Carnauba Moose. Seems to be a nice combination on black. I'm still not sure why he wanted to park it on the lawn for the pictures (he took a couple also), but it's his truck. ;)

Scott,

As always, your work is outstanding! :bow :bow :bow

When you do as many steps as with the 626, how long did that take you, from beginning to end, including washing & drying?

You must be in super shape to do what you do, all by hand! :xyxthumbs

As I have stated before, If I ever get a chance, I would to see your work in person.

Keep up the great work!

Cheers,

Scott,

Thanks for the updates on the pics and info. The M is just amazing.

As for the Benz', I wonder why 2 of the same series would have much different paints...Accidents? I bet with this 'new' nano clearcoat from Mercedes coming out, that will change, but it will also make your job (hand application) much much harder. PC on the way? :)

That 1500 looks like is has brand new paint. Just amazing! Great reflections on the side and just that deep, wet look on the hood. yummm :) Did you use VM on the chrome like usual? It looks real good. It looks like it isn't driven much. I did a Yukon XL last week and the front was soooo pitted (chrome bumper) and my polish helped, but pitting is permanent.

AMP01-Including washing, I put in about 4 hours on the paint on the Mazda. Washing with QEW really speeds things up. I've been doing this for almost 10 years full time and before that, I did a lot of weight lifting, so yeah, I'm in decent shape. My 16-year-old found out this summer why even though he can bench press 240 that I can still pin him in arm wrestling in about 2 seconds after he hand polished and waxed a Suburban and Expidition. ;)

GSRstilez-That GMC has about 65,000 miles on it and has been well taken care of. I did use VM on the chrome, as usual, it worked great. At first, I thought it was a repaint (and a damn good one at that) because the paint laid so flat but I didn't find any evidence of repainting (overspray in door jams or the gas cap area). The current owner is not the original one and as far as he knew, the paint was original.

And yes, a PC is involved in my short term plans.

Dear Toyota,

Your wheel choices on the LS430 are horrible. Please try something that doesn't look like hubcaps.

Love,

Corey

Scott, as usual--VERY NICE. S500 is awesome, and maybe I just notice the Lexus wheels being bland because I really like the 5 spoke AMGs.

Corey-I have to agree that Lexus sucks at chosing the wheels for the LS400/430. How they can to everything else so well and fail so miserably at wheel choice is beyond me.

Wow Scott, I'd really love to see some of your results in person!

That M Coupe is nearly identical to mine. Same color. It's great to see it looking so good. Mine's kinda filthy and my knee's in a brace after a soccer accident, so it will be a while til it gets a chace to look half that nice.

For Greg and the other M Coupe questions: The car pictured is a 1999, you can tell by the black slats in the front grill. 2000's have chrome slats. The only way to tell a 240 hp 1999 or 2001 from a 315 hp 2001 or 2002 is from the slightly darker wheels and the curved M badges. The rear badge is also level with the top of the taillight on the newer car and they have a chrome surround on the rearview mirror, as well as light grey guages.

The performance isn't really as different as the numbers suggest, at least in stock form, and under 100. The 315hp cars were much less aggressively geared, so as not to blow away E46 M3's. But with a proper rear ratio, the newer cars are much faster, and into the 12's in the 1/4.

One other minor note, the M Coupe has had it's wheels refinished, or the camera really abused the look. My wheels are refinished too, but I went with an anthracite finish, darker than even the 2001+ finish, mainly to minimize the German brake dust appearance. newer M car has a wheel finish that is impossible to match, it's a bear if you ever knick a wheel!

Great work Scott, it's always fun to see your pics, and especially nice to see essentially my car, just with your excellent touch!

:up :up I Like that LS430 with the 5 spokes, the other wheels looked smaller having less open space and more spokes.

Those are the 18s, the 17s are what my dad has. They're better than the 17s on the 01-03, but nothing spectacular.

Ride quality? BLAH BLAH BLAH. He should put snows on the 17s, and get the 18s for summer. :) Tell him I said the 5 spokes look much better.

But you can't get the 18s without the sport package, and you can't get them with the Ultra Luxury package. You know you can't fight his logic when he's made up his mind :o

Buy him some bling bling wheels for his birthday. Actually, see if you can borrow some from somebody...he'd flip. Oh man, that would be funny.
