There are several different types of yellow foam that have been used in the last couple of years. I have some yellow foam pads that feel like scotch brite pads that would come in handy *if* you needed to cut but only had a DA.
The latest yellow foam pads I have are much less aggressive to the touch (although slightly stiffer) and seem to have less cut (slightly) but a much better finish. On a rotary they are splatter city though...
Foam cutting pads have a place, particularly on a DA, but newer foams such as Meguiar's latest cutting and LC's Hydro Cyan offer similar cut and a much improved finish.
