Yellow Car

Is there anything different that you would do for a yellow car to remove light swirl marks on a bright yellow car then you would on a black or darker colored car??

I've tried the search function and didn't come up with anything.

Here's how I wash/wax..

I use a seaspone to wash with Mequires gold car wash..

I dry with 100% cotton towels and micofiber towels (ordered a big blue last week)

I have never clayed my car, but plan to this summer and I've only used Mequiers Carnuba wax on the car and the detailing spray.

Any tips suggestions would be appreciated...

Thanks

Dan

Welcome.

Well, not really. One thing you may want to be aware of is to *not* use SMR for dark cars (or so I'm told... that charcoal color wouldn't go well with yellow, I'm sure). As far as I know, and others will correct me if I'm wrong, that's about it. It's all the same otherwise.

About your washing/drying (or even waxing): you don't do anything that can encourage swirls, like drying in circles, using even slightly dirty rags, or that sort of thing, do you?

Also, I don't hear much about seasponges here on Autopia... just my $.02, but you may want to consider using something else, like MF, (100% cotton) chenille mitts, or that sort of thing. Then again, I don't hear much bad stuff about them, either. Just a thought.

The only part about Seasponges that is bad. Is the fact that it has deep pores that hold sand.

When they are filtered, they dont get all the sand, and that works to the surface over time. This will cause bad scratches, so just be aware of that risk. Other than that, they are good in my opinion

Polaris... Nope I don't do anything to encourage swirls. I usually dry the car the same way I wax it. Which is, to go from front to back on the top of the car, and up and down on the sides of the car.

I have purchased two chenille mitts since joining this board, but bought the Seasponge due to what was recommended at CMA at that time. And it's washed every week after being used. If it's dropped at ANY time during the washing process. I rinse the car off, and promptly wash the sponge. Then resume washing the car again.

Only towels I use on it are 100% cotten made in the good ole USA, and that's usually just as a final wipe. MF towels are used to get most of the water off and dry it as much as possible.

Well, that's cool. ;)

I dunno where you got those swirls from, then... probably the same kind of thing that happened to me. I'm meticulous in what I use and how I use it on my 'Bring, and I still had a few little swirls and such (recently gotten rid of by SMR for dark... my car is black).

Anyway, about your original question: I'm sure they have an SMR for light colored cars... you may want to try that or something that will remove (and not just fill) those little swirls you have. I did that (followed with AIO and P21S), and the results were better than what I would get in the past when not using SMR... it always looked really good, but you know how an artist (whether it be music (that's me... solo classical piano), art, or whatever) always sees the most flaws in his/her own creation? Same idea. Good luck, and if they're light and on a yellow car like you're saying, I doubt you'll have any serious problems at all. What do you drive, anyway? :xyxthumbs

I'll have a look at my local stores to see if I can find some SMR for light colored cars, if not, maybe I'll look on CMA and see if they have some. I have a hard time finding things in my area (Wash DC) which you would think would be easy.

I agree with you, my wife says my car is fine, but I see the smallest flaws in the car and I feel I have to work them out. I would love for mine to have a better then new deep wet look to it and really reflect the light..

I have an '01 Mustang Cobra that is my baby... LOVE to take care of her. Below is a link to some pics, but they aren't that good. Crappy digital camera settings and eagerness to go out and DRIVE the car since this was the first day I had it.

Beautiful car, man. Looks good :xyxthumbs

What year is it? If you mentioned that, I was probably too busy looking at the pics... but I did happen to see that you listed the dyno results as 277/277. Impressive, in any case. ;)

Polaris... that's still stock

By the end of Feb, I'll have it lowered about an inch and a half and have a catback exhaust system on it, so it should be closer to 300 HP by then. By the end of summer, I'm looking at 320-350 with a few more bolt ons.

But still, I want it to look good.... I'm hoping some SMR will solve my little problem..

Also... where is the page for the acronyms ?? Don't know what AIO is??

My bad...(?), I was thinking about the numbers from the most recent Cobras. You know, 390 hp at the crank. From what I read, Ford had some issues with the Cobras falling quite short of the factory dyno numbers in the past, but that's supposedly taken care of now.

Oh, and hey, don't feel too bad. My car's black, and I managed to swirl/scratch her to hell with some ratty, old terry rags. Back to SMR I go this weekend.

Thanks for the info Dale

Polaris.... the new '03's are rated at 390, but are actually putting out closer to 420 and with a few mods are doing some quick times at the 1/4 mile..

Trblmkr,

I also have a 2001 zinc yellow Cobra. My car was just 30 cars down the assembly line from yours, #577.

As for the swirl marks I use z5 and haven't had any problems. Of course my car never really had swirl marks to begin with. How do you like the yellow? It is just about impossible to take a good picture with zinc yellow. I've noticed that the color deepens or lightens depending on what time of day it is. At night it looks almost flourescent under artificial lighting.

Polaris, yes the 99 Cobra only produced on average 300-305 fly wheel horsepower as to the 320 stated by Ford. They (Ford)did a recall and fixed all the 99's. That is why they never released a 2000 Cobra, exept for the Cobra R which they only produced 300. The 2003 Cobra is rated at 390 flywheel hp but those that have dyno'd their 03's are finding them to produce 360-370 at the wheels. Sorry if I didn't add anything of revelance to this thread, I just love talking about Cobra's.:)

I've never used Zaino (sp) on my car since I've owned. Never really heard of it until I came here and then it was "WTF are these people talking about??" LOL. Anyway, I pretty sure I know where my swirl marks/spider webs came from, now it's just a matter of removing them. I think I'm going to try the Meguires #9 first and see if that works, if not then I'll try the Zaino.

As for a yellow car LOVE IT!!!!!

I can't tell you how easy it is to spot my car in a parking lot, or the looks I get driving it down the road. Even guys that are driving BMW's and Porche's check out the car. It just looks GOOOD.. Wife on the other hand doesn't care to drive it, makes her feel self conscious... more time in my baby for me ;)
