Year old edge pads

Not sure exactly what is your question...



But I do have some foam pads that are more than a year old that I still use. If properly cared for most pads will last a while.
 
As long as they are functional and intact, age shouldn't play a factor in using them. I have EDGE pads (and others) that are several years old and are still very useable.
 
I would say what's more important is how many times you used them in the last year and how they were cared for.

What does the amount of times a pad was used have to do with it's longevity? It's not like you toss them after X amount of uses, you do so when their too beat up to use.

You don't think chances are good that a pad used 100 times is going to be more beat up than a pad used 1 time? I'm not saying that there is a certain number of uses you get out of a pad and then you toss it. I'm only saying the more you use it the more beat up it will get.



My point really was that saying that the pads are "a year old" doesn't really say much about the condition of the pad. If I use a pad once during the same year that you use a similar pad 500 times I would think yours would be more beat up.
 
Your taking this out of context and using unrealistic numbers here = 100 / 500. There's not a pad that will last that long. So yes, a pad used this many times will be quite a bit different that a pad used once. Ironically, the car's finish will be different too (probably burned off) if you're still using a pad that many times. I've seen some people use a pad a few times and I wouldn't trust even using it on a POS and I've seen some pads used dozens of times and it looked better (and still very useable).

These were just numbers I was throwing out there. Ignore the numbers my point is this: the more uses a pad gets the more beat up it will be. I don't even know why we're arguing about this.



Granted, if you don't properly care for a pad (run it over emblems, don't clean it properly, etc) it could be more beat up after one use than a pad used 10 times which has been properly cared for. This is why in my very first post in this thread I named TWO factors which affect pad wear:



1. number of uses

2. care of pads



Here is a factor I would hope you would agree has little to do with the viability of a pad:

I guess I'd be more concerned with the care/appearance aspect rather than the number of uses(I don't keep track). Lots of variables there I guess that could confuse somone wondering if their pads were still good or not. :nixweiss
